Once in the late 60's while working the Condor (night club) in North Beach San Francisco...after we closed for the night at about 2 am, a Limo pulled up outside the club...a man got out with an envelope...I was by the door and he handed it too me and said "Mr. Rawls would like to buy you folks breakfast." (It contained a hundred dollar bill). Upon questioning...Lou Rawls was working a club down the street and had just finished his run and was heading for the airport. The guy said Lou Rawls always liked to remember his showbiz roots and how he started on a lower rung. He evidently did this everywhere he went. A very class act.
Mr. Lou Rawls...Rest In Peace. I still owe you a breakfast someday. Doug

A voice like no other. It's so rare to find artists who are so unique and have thier own sound. Lou Rawls was one of those.

I love his song, "Upside Down".
When I did shows at Six Flags, we opened the show with that song.

Yeah relly sad. I actually heard a young girl being told by someone in line behind me at the store that he had passed and her question was "who is that?" Terrible huh.

Heard about Mr Rawls passing and I was very saddend. I live in the Seattle area and he had performed in a local club but I was unable to get tickets. I said, like a lot of other fans, "oh well, I will just see him next time he is in town". I guess I need to not wait any longer if any of the greats come along.
brokin6 is so right. Very sad that so many young people no very little, if any at all about the many legends in this world. Guess if it is not on mtv then it is not important. StevenMT |
