Lots of people send thank you emails (its been mentioned on other threads), but I think they don't have the same lasting impact.
With a physical card, it gets attention longer. They might display it on their desk or in their home. They are more likely to keep it, and look at it more than once. And receiving a physical thank you card is a rare thing nowadays. Be different! - Donald

As mentioned earlier in the thread, a quality professional needs to keep that personal touch alive with clients. An email Thank You is so easy to send and just too cold and impersonal - no matter how passionate and heartfelt you make it. Receiving a hand written note in the mail gives a tangible message to the client. It says "I care enough to make the extra effort to write, stamp and mail this. Your business matters to me."
In fact, I usually toss in a couple of scratch off lottery tickets for my commercial clients - just for fun.
How you leave others feeling after an Experience with you becomes your Trademark.
