Buying a close-up mat was one of the best purchases I had ever made. I was tired of getting my cards dirty by putting them on other surfaces. The close-up mat solved all of my problems. It is great to ribbon spread cards on. You can slide a card around the mat, and it won't get dirty. If you do that on a rug or tablecloth, it will.
PROS Rolls up small Does not make cards dirty Easy to carry around CONS It can get dirty easily RATING 9 3/4 out of 10 Buy one. It is a GREAT purchase. |

What brand do you recommend? Where did you get it? How much did it cost?

Do you think people ever suspect these mats of having something to do with the actual tricks?

I love my close-up pad. I especially like the reall large size of it. However, make sure you roll it up with the side you use on the outside. Otherwise they wrinkle, and I don't know that you can fix wrinkles.

GG - you may want to take a look in the "Table Hoppers & Party Strollers" forum. They can probably help you there. Here's one particular thread I found:

I sell a double mat system, designed to help you vanish coins completely while standing up. They come with a teaching DVD on the art of matting. PM me for details.

Getting a mat made me feel like a real magician.. When I asked people in a different forum whether it was useful or necessary, someone replied. "Get one. Everyone in here has one but you."
