The world's greatest collector of "heads" (usually severed) is a belgian fellow living in Ghent.
His collection was displayed in a Parisian museum recently. If you want a real jivaro head, you should first contact an expert. And they're quite expensive... And if you're a ventriloquist, the answer to the question "real or not" could become really funny. |

Thanks Curator. I answered this in another thread started, as for some reason this thread lost its reply function yesterday. Probably was the big photos somebody had loaded on the page (since removed)...oh well...

Doug, did what the Curator just say happen to give you any ideas ?
It did me. Would it be possible to make a shrunken head puppet ? The mouth of course couldn't open, but it could move a bit, struggling against the stitches. When you think about it, it's a natural for beginning and non-ventriloquists, because everything would come out sounding muffled and mumbled anyway. For good measure, you have have "broken stitches" on one eye allowing it to flutter open now and then. If we want to get really nuts, we can start talking remote control and motors ..

There was Shrunky Head puppet in Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban hanging in the school bus. (very rubber looking)
A couple of weeks ago I drew up a weird little marionette Shrunk Head puppet and have done a preliminary work-up on a hand puppet. Just like you said...it struggles against the string sewing to move lips...didn't think of the Eye bit though. hahaha.

The eye would be gone in a shrunken head, unless you wanted it to deliberately look very hokey.
I've made a few of these, and they're interesting finger puppets. You can go a lot of directions with the idea of inserting a finger into the hole in the head. It doesn't matter if you're a good vent, as long as you make a good show. The vent part is obvious tongue-in-cheek (now try talking that way), but the story you tell makes the vent just a bit of comic relief. With the right story, yoiu need the relief.

Ssucahyo, I'm curious why this is a hard question for you. In your picture, you look wild enough to possibly really have a shrunken head......are you scared to take it that far? You look real, the prop looks real, if the magick looks real........don't break the illusion. If you're worried that you're lying to them, just think about the fact that every trick is a lie. Just stir up their emotions with a good story about where you got it and why the guy was killed (whose head it is). I like the answer someone else gave....."are you a cop?"......that will make them feel weird! Then follow with a good story........

Harley...the way I imagine the Eye on the Shrunky Head with the fluttering eye lid is a gaping HOLE. No eyeball. Of course there is always the Beetle Juice type Shrunky Head...still mounted...hahaha...have a full size figure with a tiny head...or the other way I was thinking is that the standard Vent Figure also has a Shrunken head on a STICK that he uses...a 3 voice routine ala Jerry Layne.

Ah, a hole. That makes sense. What would make it show up? Hmmm.
For those of you who can make these, make one that looks like yourself, and it becomes your deceased twin, with whom you still have communication. HOW the twin became deceased is another part of the story.

How about a De-Lite in the socket that glows red on cue?

Hehe ! Kewl !
Yes, a hole would be accurate, and if the lighting isn't too dim, it would be noticable. Or, you could have a really nasty cataract looking bloodshot eye in there that just looks like it got cooked and survived, most people probably wouldn't question the logic - afterall, I was thinking of this as something more tongue-in-cheek, not as a dead-serious viable type prop. How about a worm that pokes out from the eyehole ?

Remember Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark? There is a scene where a snake comes out of the eye socket of a skull...extremely creeepy...sounds like a lot of fun to do here.
