I just got my cups and balls set about a week ago, and it's going really well except for one thing: whenever I palm/finger-palm my black crochet balls, they are really really visible. I've tried turning my hand away from the audience, but in a mirror it looks like I'm trying to hide something. And this is just with my small balls. I don't even want to think about final loads. Any suggestions?

First of all, I won't answer this question in an open forum. No sense giving away the store to the lurkers.
For my suggestions, go to this post: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......37&0

Okay, thanks. That sounds good.

Without giving away any state secrets, let me also suggest that you may want to try using a slightly smaller ball if you have small hands. Many Cup & Ball sets use 1" crocheted balls, which are great if you can handle them. But most magic dealers also stock 3/4" sets, which are only slightly less visible, but are easier to work with if you have small hands.
Be sure and specify the Morrissey crocheted balls from Canada, which use a good thick yarn. Some crocheted balls are made in India and use a thinner yarn and a harder core, which can cause them to "talk" while in use. SETHB

The Morrissey balls are good in that respect. Some other balls use rubber or silicone balls as a core, and they are fairly silent.
Good technique and planning can minimize talking, too.

For routining, and some different thoughts on loading, etc... I would suggest taking a look at Reed McLintock's "Defiance 2: Cups and Balls" routine. I found some of his thinking very refreshing.

Also, for a great method of loading and concealment of loads, check out Jerry Mentzer's Effective Cups and Balls. There is an idea in there that is worth the price of the manuscript. I don't say this lightly.

Aside from all the great techniques suggested above, there is a second line of defense (but not quite as effective). Make sure that your empty hands always look like your "guilty" ones. I use a single move every time I load a ball into my hand or a cup. It's one of those things you create for yourself and then find in a book later. But I use it for the balls that will disappear, the ones that will multiply, and the ones that are just being placed somewhere. My routine contains some misdirection as needed also (actually, it's the Mark Wilson routine, with my style of handling).

Good point. It almost goes without saying. Go over to the post in Secret Sessions and you will see how I refer to the "rest" position. That's part of the idea.
