What also helps is age. It is hard for an audience to accept a young magician as to being a expert on card sharp methods when they are not old enough to get into a casino. My card sharp demo imporved more with me getting gray hair than my skill with the cards.

That was a mistake .... I am not perfect... Richard [/quote] Maybe not but you are quite obviously at a level where such a mistake was glaring in comparison to everything else you do . |

I certainly do know the rules of Professional Blackjack and have played everywhere from Monte Carlo to Reno. If you review the video you will see that if the dealer took another hit, he would have busted with another 10. I had worked that out in my head and was all excited that things would work out so well. Then - and this is where the dumbness set in! - I jumped the gun and yelled out - DEALER BUSTS! Again, sorry I ruined the ending for you. Richard |

Just yesterday I chastised another for making assumptions about me...now I see I am guilty . After being suprised by two apologies from Richard Osterlind I reread my own original post . It insinuated in a snide manner that that Richard did not know the rules of blackjack .I also see how it can be inferred that Richards claims about being banned were not truth ("presented as truth"). Although this was not in the forefront of my mind and no one called me on it ...I know it was completely out of line and confess it here . Richards explanation is on the money and dug I up his DVD and rewatched it while I was mulling over my apology .
I cannot accept either of Richards apologies as I did not expect them nor do I deserve them ( although he was quite gracefull to offer them ). Richard has made a great offering to the fraternity through LL pub. and should not apologize for it. I thought I was making a decent point but really I was being snotty. I am ashamed : My sincerest apologies Richard (and the others) Ted Deeley I t is to all your credit that I was not prompted by anyone to this. |

Dowser,
I appreciate your post very much although there was no need to apologize. For what it's worth, let me tell you the whole story. We never see the videos after they are shot until months later. When the first drafts finally arrived and I viewed them, I saw the mistake in the Blackjack routine. (It was the first blunder I saw - although there are certainly others!) It really bothered me because I consider that routine one of the strongest I do. What is so funny is that everything fell so perfectly right into place and then I bungled it in my excitement! The best way for the Blackjack routine to play out is to have the dealer bust. Everyone who has played in a casino knows the heat the last player at the table is in if he takes a hit or not and causes the dealer to come up with a good card! (ie. "See, I told you not to take a hit!) So if it happens that you can do something unlikely - like hit a 17 - and then the dealer busts, you can play it up big. My mistake was in first calling the dealer's hand a soft 14. I should have said, "You have a 4 or a soft 14." You can see me computing the cards in my head and I knew the JH and JC were do to come up. I (in my mind) was thinking, "This is great! I can make it appear that my play has caused the dealer to bust!" I got so excited and gave that speech about causing the dealer to bust that when I saw that first Jack - I just blurted it out! Oh, well. That's how things go sometimes. Thanks again for your understanding. Sincerely, Richard |

On a return to the actual topic, Paul Harris also has an old routine called bleached blackjack (impromptu blank card is used...a very creative idea).

One of my favorite blackjack demonstration is the one published in "Blitz & Overblitz" by Christian Chelman. Fast and very convincing.

How about using the same method as Osterlind uses in his EZ to master mental miracles for his POKER Demonstration? Add a couple DL and a mexican turnover and you have a nice effect where it looks like the spectator beats your 17 but the seven is waved over the jack of clubs and the seven turns into an ACE!
