Do magicians work behind The Bar but not bartend? This seems a little strange to me but I've been thinking about it.
Example: Does Doc Eason mix and serve drinks as well as magish? I assume he does. Does anyone have any advice for this?

Hi Frank.
I think Eugene Burger does some magic behind the bar at Biggs Restaurant in Chicago, but I don't think he actually bartends too. Correct me if I am wrong. Steve |

Frank,
Doc Eason serves drinks as well as performing; I think you'll find that's the way it is with most bar magicians. As I point out in my lecture notes, Bar Magic, the magician is not the reason 99 per cent of the customers are there -- the shiny, colored bottles are the first reason and there are a bunch more; the magician is lucky if he is the fourth or fifth reason the people are there. And, so, he should act accordingly, putting the booze first. Besides, the management is in business to make money and the magician should be doing something that will make that money! (i.e., serving drinks) |

I have a unique situation. I don't serve.. but that's the state law here.. in fact I don't perform at the drinkin' bar.. I perform at a special bar (replica of a 1880's saloon bar) that has been provided for me by the restaraunt. Utah State Law is so bizarre that drinks are not allowed to be served without food, so I had to do something else.. now having said that, I love the situation I'm in, and you could try and set something up similar if the managment is open and has the space.
