Just got my Stevens Catalog yesterday. Has anyone seen the C&B set where the cups vanish inside each other.
I guess it's like expanded shells I guess. Looks interesting. I've never seen anything like this before and was wondering if this is new or just a comeback of an older idea?

Hi eric, I saw them at the reno convention.
they're quite impressive. the fit is so close that they nest quietly as the air escapes between the cups. pretty neat.

The idea of nesting cups is fairly old (evidence of sets being made in the 19th century, maybe earlier). However those cups usually were used to produce a large number of cups as a finale to the cups in balls.
Encore Magic makes a nesting set for the production of up to nine cups. I don’t know of anyone that actually went from three (or more) to one. However, since the nesting cups were made, sold, and used it is logical to believe that someone took the step and did the trick in reverse. So yes, this is the application of an older idea, but maybe applied in a new way (and the cups are beautiful).

I was thinking of going in reverse. Starting with just one cup. And... Whoops... where did that cup come from??? Then keep working and... Whoops where did that come from??? Then each dissapearing again... down to one and even topiting the last cup.... and have nothing but balls on the table... hmmm

Yeah a bit.... but a bit more like cups and balls and less like juggling or dice stacking... or cup stacking....
My daughter does that at her elementary school... not nearly that fast though...

Yep, but when I do it I lift up the three stacks at the end and find a Lemon, Onion and Potato

Dominique Duvivier does a dualing cups and balls routine with his daughter where at the end a 4th cup just appears in the mix. Very entertaining (and the cups and balls routine ain't too shabby either).

The set of van Dokkum/Mason nesting cups that is on my web site is the first set that was sold commercially. I kept them off the web site until Mark Mason gave me the go ahead on putting them up. They are not the first nesting cups, but they are definitely the first two ring nesting cups that would nest with what is basically an "air lock." The machining on these is quite impressive.

And because of the "airlock", doing the thing in reverse (producing cups) while in a routine, is not an easy thing. They were not made for that purpose.
I know it took Auke a long time to get the bugs out.

Reviving a dormant thread........thinking of getting a set of these nesting cups..... has anyone had a problem with the cups getting stuck......and is there a routine for them?

No, they don't remain stuck. They separate without too much trouble. They come with a DVD with a routine on it.

I think I'll have to look into them. Can always use more cups.
