I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this or not.
I am a sales rep by day and magician/mentalist by night. Or something like that. I was just wondering if other sales reps use magic in there day job? I don't, but I think it would be fun too. Any ideas? |

I understand the Trade show side of things. What I am talking about is everyday sales jobs with customers?

Dover,
I sure do, when appropriate. My clients are commercial contractors, and I utilze items like Jay Sankey's Holey Moley (uses a washer) or a Doc Eason's effect using some bolts and nuts. Anyway, through doing this I've secured retirement parties, graduations, and did a few Christmas Parties this past year via my clients. One day I noticed a receptionist had a few rubber bands on her wrist ( perfect for CMH ) and asked to borrow two of the rubber bands. I went into the routine and she was floored. She called another office worker over to watch it again. That's when I started to do more. Not all the time. It does put you in a different light so to speak.

Although I am not in the sales field, a good friend of mine is and he uses magic almost daily. He works a territory and must call on both existing and potential clients in order to get the orders and service them properly. The use of magic serves many purposes for him:
1. It helps to set him apart from all of the other reps 2. It helps to convey his own distinct personality to his customers 3. It makes him more memorable to his customers 4. It helps break the ice with the receptionist and the boss 5. It gives them something to talk about other than the "sale" 6. It makes his job a whole lotta fun! This guy is exttremely successful in what he does. That's because the magic helps him sell his personality first, and his product second. If people like you, they will be more inclined to do business with you. Kent

Right now I sell Phones I use magic to draw in passer-by. I have had good luck with this. Just to let you know though if you do it enough people will start to bring freinds just to watch not to buy.

I'm in sales, (wholesale mortgage) and I have not yet worked magic into it. I do occasionally give group presentations, and I'm planning on working it in there. (I was actually practicing my routine earlier today, then logged in here here and saw this thread...weird...) Anyway, I'll check back with an update.
I do have a friend who still remembers a wholesale rep from years agp who used magic in his presentations, and that's what really got me thinking about it. I initially thought it would be kind of hokey, but if it helps keep your name at the front of your prospects' minds, then it certainly an advantage worth using... Take care! Mike
Why doesn't it tickle when I tickle myself, but it still hurts when I stick a fork in my eye?

I too am not in the sales field. BUT what can be wrong with people remembering you when you work on comission?
It makes perfect sense to me. ONE and only one word of caution. Please do tricks well. You don't want to be a "joke" people tell when your not arround. Make a good impression or don't make one at all. If your doing good enough magic to amaze amuse and entertain them then you have a weapon in your arsenal that few others in the field do. That can not be bad.
