I think this is an area that is at least *somewhat* untapped. I reckon it's also easy to get into. No huge organizations, no trade shows, just go out and show people your magic. So, I have a local film student who will be walking around with me filming for a demo video soon, we will be going to the local universities to film. I am going to take this opportunity to see about getting booked for some parties. I know a lot of parties make use of DJ's and/or bands, so why not replace that with some awesome mentalism? It seems to make sense... to me anyway, and if nothing else, I can just do some stage hypnosis for entertainment.
Has anyone else gone the way of college parties? If so, how, and what did you think of it? I don't plan on charging an arm and leg, this is more just for fun rather than the money seeing as how I have a great job I'm working at getting off the ground already.
Coming soon... Who knows!

Booked a few parties while I was in college. The one thing I can suggest is that if you believe getting rid of the music is an option, you're probably going to loose way more than you win.
You might be able to book in addition to the DJ, or perhaps even a special show just for the party. Just know your audience. You're no doubt nearby USC and other big ACC schools along the coast. Use that to your advantage. Good luck, Robert Bloor

Lessee, young men, in the prime of their lives, all full of hormones and ready to prove that they are 'a man' to the world. Add to that booze, maybe some drugs. Mix in an attitude of immortality.
I think I'll stick with adults, thank you. I can't think of a scarier crowd. |

It has been about 35 years since I worked the fraternity house circuit. (And it will be at least that long before I’ll be interested again.) However, it was a paying market for what I did. It was also a way to sell a weekday.
Forget the dances and coed parties. What worked for me was “Card Cheat at the Table”. The common name back then was a fraternity house “smoker” which really meant weekday stag party. In essence it was a close-up card show with a little dice and coin (poker chip) work. If you need the money and can tolerate the drunks and the smoke, go for it! There was a good market for it. The guys had fun. You will get invited back for Rush. You will only get to work about 10% of the fraternities on any given campus. So location is VIP. If you are of age to be a legal adult, beware of legal complications that come from simply being there. Minors likely will be breaking the law. Let us know what you do. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
