I've seen the other 3, but have not seen Stand Up with Cards. I like the All-Purpose show the best, and thought it had some very good magic in it, especially Starcle. Even better than the magic, for me, was the concept of packing small and playing big. Dan has some great ideas on how to do that, including a nice idea for a 'ditch bag' built into the briefcase, and a show format sheet taped to the inside of the case to guide you on what to do next. I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 that I saw, and think they're worth getting. Although I haven't seen the Stand Up with Cards one, I have heard from several reviews that it is the worst of the series. If you're looking at getting just one, I'd go with the All Purpose Show and maybe build from there. Hope this helps!

I second the recomendation regarding the All Purpose show. Lots of decent quality effects - however man are the audiences they use lame! I would much prefer a lesser quality taping of a REAL show (not an audience brought in specifically for the taping - it just seems too contrived) and then the high quality production for the explanations. On a positive note - Starcle and Hold it Buster alone are worth the price of the DVD.
Also - Dan's discussion about his case set-up, show planning form, and ditch bag is excellent and something I put into place almost imediately. |

Hi
I do not have the Card DVD, as I got the mentalism DVD. Anyways, they should be similar, so I'd give my thoughts on it. Personally I am not a fan of his presentation. I believe some audiences might even feel uncomfortable in some cases. The material is ok. I think there are 1 or 2 effects that are not bad. He had a discussion about how to prepare the show and everything. Down to reasonning and explanations of how to plan a show. How to put effects in order, making a time table. I am sure it will be useful to many people here. |

Here is my thoughts on these DVD's. I was entertained by them and I liked the effects, but not one of the effects made it into my show. I would still recommend getting and watching them though.
Hope that helps. |

Dan Harlans work is FUNNY! all of the routines are well worked out, especially his case organization. The card dvd he has is excellent- real gems. I especially like eggbeater mindreader and it also has some work on the stebbins stack. highly recommended!
Ask me about Dan Harlan's Jam Sessions!

Mac_Stone,
I would recommend you getting the dvd. Like crdshark86 said there are some gems in there, I used the eggbeater routine in a show and it was a hit with both the kids and the adults. Even if you don't like the routines his ideas on preparing for the show. It was worth the money for me. Hope this helps, George |
