Some time back I bought the dice stacking kit being sold in MAGIC. Now, I (honestly) had great fun with doing it years ago with some small wooden blocks and (seriously) a coke can. Just for kicks, no routine as such. The ad says that the cup supplied is the best for stacking and the set came with the required sharps...dice...but still no real success. I know, I'm going to have to put in some more concerted practice. Anyone else with difficulties on this equipment? At the time of writing, I can't remember the supplier, but it was from an ad in Magic

The only advice I can give is to buy Jim Zachary's video, "The Art of Dice Stacking."
He has all the tips about the type of cups, etc., and also has some nice routines. If you're into dice stacking, this is the video to get. vinny |

I learned to dice stack two years ago and Jim's video really helped me learn the basic starting point. The rest was all trial and error.
I was so mad and fustrated after about half an hour of trying it at first. Then it just clicked. Two suggestions: 1. Put some sort of border or box around the space you're working on so the dice don't fly everywhere. 2. I have found that stacking four in a cup is harder than stacking eight in a larger cup. This is just what I found to be easiest. Hope this helps. Justin |

Todd Strong also has a good book / video on Dice Stacking. He's a juggler, not a magician, and he gives a few interesting challenges you might want to try out...

I learned from the Todd Strong video. I followed along as I watched it. By the end of the tape I could stack the dice.

In the International Magic competition hosted in London on Saturday, this one competitor stacked 17 die. What is the record for this stunt?

Depends on what criteria you set: kind of dice / which surface / technique used / ...
I think it'll be hard to find an 'official' record...

Dice stacking is really very easy to learn .I purchased Senator Crandalls dice cup and learnt how to stack em right from the little manuscript that accompanied the cup in less than an hour. I bought it from Magic Inc. in Chicago. After I became proficient I contacted Jim Zachary and purchased his wooden 6 die and wooden 10 die cups. He also sells a 14 die cup. I put together an extremely original routine veering away from tha Alan-Marlo-Paul Barstyle of presentation and more like the Del Ray style .(if I had more posts I woudn't have to sound this vague)The wooden cups from Jim Zee are great for tradeshows since they really make a racket and draw alot of attention with all the noise going on.I am amazed at how inexpensive they are.Judging by their durability and quality and the way they handle they are worth 10 times their price.
