Lol
You slavedriver ! You killed him ! You worked him to death ! Those lil buggers love VCRs. The like the warmth, and they eat the insulation of the wires and such. Go figure. I don't see what nutritional value plastic has ! Seriously though Bill, you may have a big problem.. There is no such thing as "one" cockroach.. I'd panic if I found that in my VCR. I always worried about bringing one of those bad boys home on me, even if just an egg. Fortunately, I never did.

I HATE ROACHES...SCRATCH THAT...I LOATH THEM! I always tell my wife that the moment I see a roach in our house, is the moment I put it up for sale!
I'm working on an idea for a box that "moves like a poltergeist is inside"....bumps and rattles and such...however, when you show it inside..there's nothing there. Is there anything like this on the market? yes, I already know about "relic of the revenant" and it does'nt "go bump in the night" like I'd prefer. Any ideas? Chris |

I wonder why it is that the first thing most of us think of when doing a story theme is cards. I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else.
There are so many more mysterious and bizarre things than playing cards. Why not wean ourselves from playing cards? I think the audiences would find this more magical, as well.

Myst, cockroaches are a way of life in Florida. If you hear someone talking about "palmetto bugs," think "cockroach."
The things are BIG! Once I heard two of them talking. They had just killed a cow. One said to the other, "Shall we eat it here or take it back with us?" The other one replied, "We better eat it here. If we take it back, the big ones will take it away from us!" Bill

I personally hate playing cards and card tricks. I only know a few powerful routines so that when someone asks "do you know any card tricks" I can blow them away and move on to something I would prefer. I'm not judging card tricks, they just aren't my style.
Bill, I've seen "palmetto bugs" in Florida, and your'e right, they're BIG. I think I saw one carjacking a crispy creme truck once. |

Florida and coastal Texas have two things in common -- fleas and big-ass roaches. We don't call them Palmetto Bugs here, but they are the same things.
I saw a family try to get into one one time. They thought it was a volkswagen.

I've heard of the hissing Madagascar roaches, but sheesh.
I think I'd rather deal with the alligators. I remember a trip down to FL when I was 13, as the tour bus is driving to Cape Canaveral, you could see alligators waddling alongs the shoulder of the road. Not a good place to have to change a flat tire !! Sorry, rims, I'm gonna keep driving ! Here's a thought - Pandora's box, filled with cockroaches. It's opened, and they all scurry out, each one representing the evil of the world; but at the bottom, hope; a can of Industrial strength Raid. You're gonna need it. I used to blast those nasties with Chemtronics Freeze spray, normally used to thermally troubleshoot electronic components. It's about -60º F, and it'd stop them in their tracks, coated in white frost. The first time I did that I figured it was dead, oh little did I know. Turn around 30 seconds later and it's gone. Then I learned to use it just to slow them down enough for the impending footstomp or screwdriver jab. The worst part of that is having to lick the screwdriver clean though. hehe They will inherit the Earth, I'm sure of it. As they say on "Fairly Oddparents", "I for one welcome our new cockroach overlords !"

My friend, Don Sanders, the Bard of Montrose, wrote a song during the 1970's called "Roaches." I recall it well, because I wrote the lead sheets for him when he copyrighted his first album.
"Roaches are the only Form of life that's still around. It's plain to see that roaches Are on their pathway down. In Roman times, they lived with Christians That did their little souls good Bud now they live with blacks and browns and in HIPPIE NEIGHBORHOODS It's plain to SEEEEEE that Roaches. Are on their pathway down." Great song!

OK - non-playing card idea for Pandora's box: a modification of TA Water's and variation of Borodin's Box prediction where a spec opens a box and chooses an item on the "tray" - after, lift up tray and below is a message stating clearly what the spec would choose with some cold reading tossed in...
So modifiy to having an aged old creepy mythic box - open up and see various objects representing the terrors and horrors of either the past or modern times... spec pics one... magi tooks away tray and at the bottom of the box is a parchment stating in some colourful prose the choice made but also ends with some sort of "Hope" angle.... How is that for a skeletal plot/patter idea sans cards? Just sharing, Bruce

I don't know if anybody is interested but there are two stories for Pandora's Box.
First one (the most popular) is that Pandora (the first woman) was made by Jupiter (Zeus) and given to Prometheus (creator of man) and his brother Epimetheus (not as smart) in punishment for Prometheus stealing of fire. Prometheus wanted nothing to do with her but Epimetheus welcomed her to their home. One day she was in their workshop where curiousity got the best of her and lifting lids to jars she released all those bad things: spite, anger, hate, strife; only to slam the lid down at the last moment capturing hope. The second one, which is often combined with the fist to make it pretty, is that Pandora was given to man without guile. Each God contributed something to make her special Venus beauty, Apollo music (I don't remember the rest). She was given a box to hold for all of mankind blessing them. She opens the box like a ninny and all the blessings escape and are lost besides for hope. Hard to say if you can use this info, but the common question in Mythology is why was hope put into this box with all these nasty things? Also I like the idea of each God contributing something both to Pandora and to the box, lots of ideas there. Hoping to inspire, Blair |

Pandora was an effect devised by the late Eric Mason. A selected card comes out of a fob watch case - and yet it is clearly too big for the case, and couldn't fit back inside. no folds.

Put something in the box that can't possibly go back in the box, Think mushroom cloud, or at least some c4 and some det cord, that'll get a bang out of your audience.
Seriously, I was thinking of some non-newtonian substance, something like the slime that crawls upward from the an educational company. BTW cockroaches like VCR's because all the food crumbs that go in there when the kids plug in tapes with PB&J hands. Cockroaches, attorneys, corian countertops, and my artificial leg, that's what's left after the apocalypse.
My mom says I'm reprehensible, I think I'm perfectly hensible.
