I would like to add some silk magic to my strolling act just because the silks look so precious and colorful. What is the single best book or DVD for learning silk magic that is angle-proof and does not require the performer wearing a jacket?

Duane laflin has silk magic DVDs
patrick page has a great TT DVD The new Slydini DVDs have a fantastic and wonderful section on the Slydini silks that is just great tony clark DVD on the sly silks David Kaye's Seriously Silly has several silk routines that you can pick and choose ideas from. I've found this to hold a wealth of creative ideas for impromptu silk magic. There's even "coins thru silk" with a sheer silk. I do the vanishing silk all the time and it's several minutes of fun, draws a crowd if you're interested in that, plays up high, etc. I love it. if you want to end up with a really creative routine that can play for 30 seconds or several minutes, get them all and put something together that you like.

What kind of silks do you use? I would like to make up a coins and silk routine before I go into pure silk magic, but the silks you can aquire at magic shops are way to thin, i.e. not opaque, thus unusable.

I have used gentlemen's pocket squares for coin work. They are heavier silk and opaque.

Yesterday I was at a Career Day at a local elementary school. (Yes, an elementary school!) Before I told them about a career as a magician I showed them some magic. That sequence was a killer for second-graders and fourth-graders: two very tough audiences!
