All of the ideas above are good. Maybe combining them into a huge build up would work as finale. Producing the 3 jumbo cd's, placing those in front of your table, remove them, there sits a CD castle, a cannon of mylar confettii goes off, you throw a curtain up, it falls and there you are in new costume holding five cds in the star position. Maybe a costume change to a silver/metalic version of the hoodie and jeans. That would make a connection to you using all of the silver cds and silver mylar confetti. I think you might need more than confetti if you are doing a one-man costume change. Hope this helps.

Derek:
I think you already answered part of your own question. Indeed you are developing a character and an act around this character. The character as I see it is a young man in his teens or twenties who is hip, cool and suave. he is a party animal of sorts but has this ability to do some pretty cool things. He is perceived as being "cool" to people in the same age group and so what he does on stage transcends this. Basically this means that his movements need to reflect this idea and the objects he uses does as well. the music reflects back on this character also. So in answering how to end, one muct look back at the character and figure out what the character would do and what the character can not do simply because it would be "out of character". I hope this helps. Kyle

Hi Derek,my suggestion would more than likely have you redoing your enter act.You could have the first object that you start with literaly evolve into the act itself and than deevolve back to the original object.
Zion speaks......are you listening?

I like the dissintegration style ending, either to mylar, or snowstorm effect, or a silver salt pour could work. Or a silver flow coil...
Instead of finishing big, you can also finish small. Something simple like showing both your hands empty and producing a single disk on the last beat of the music. After fans and fans of discs this can be very effective. If you're working in a 'victim' charater you could have great fun with the music here, as in it play's on the first production, drop and it stops... repeat... when you're flowing it's playing, can't stop producing, smash the last CD and the music ends. In the realm of the "victum" character, one idea I put down in my notebooks years ago was the idea of not just manipulating cds but manipulating Cds and the sound that is associated with them. every CD produced would be a song or a beat or melody. You produce one and the song starts to play or a beat starts to play. you produce another and another instrument comes in. As you vanish them the music vanishes with it. In the end the shattering of the cd into mylar confetti can also bring an end to a crashing of the sound at a climatic part in the routine.
In this way you are not just maniopulating Cds but beginning to now add something more to the routine. manipulation of the sound on it and the character and his reaction to what is taking place. It allows you to be very creative with this concept. I have never tried this, but it was an idea I placed in my many notebooks a long time ago as I thought I wanted a better and more creative way to do cds in a fun way that could be different and unique for the audience. Go to murrauy's site and watch his cd act. You might be inspired. DOn't know if I spelled his last name right and I can't even think of his first name. Good luck.

Be inspired but to not imitate. Just a word of caution is all.

How about producing a star spread and then juggle the CD's. Gather them in your hands and toss them all into the air inwhich they turn into mylar confetti. Reach into the falling confetti and produce a large silk/cloth the same color as the conftti. From this you produce your CD castle. And have TWO card fountaines going off.
I have made a card castle that fits on the front of my table facing everyone, of course you can't see it because the side facing out is the bottom of the castle and it matches the table. With a pull the Flap (castel)falls forward and acts as a tray when I can grab the top of the castle and pull upward. I end with a jumbo card castle. Best Ray |

The main problem is folding it flat. Cards are easier because they are thinner.

Ray,
Hey my friend. If you do try this, I would love to see a picture of your efforts and what works and what does not. I think we could all learn that way if you do not mind sharing with us. It would look really great I think if it can be figured out and have a mechnism so that it locks into place when extended. Kyle

Kyle,
I think that it can be done. I have been thinking about this for a good while but just to lazy to do it. I made card castels before and understand the workings of making stuff open up. Dynamike, You stated that the main problem is folding it flat. Cards are easier because they are thinner. The thickness is not the promblem. It is the workings and I have a very good idea of how to do this. Best Ray |

I'm not sure if I'm too convinced on the idea of a CD castle.
Card castles are logical. I'm sure most people have tried to make a castle out of a deck of cards before - it's quite a common thing. I don't think anybody has ever sat down with a stack of CD's and tried to make a castle. Thus, wouldn't a lay audince be left thinking "What's that supposed to be?". I just don't see any logic behind it. |

The magician, reaches high into the air beyond the pool of light illuminating him, comes down with a fist full of mirrored disks. He looks through the DVD's. One DVD is prominently labeled DEREK. He thinks, 'Ah, this one is a copy of my show.' He tosses it to a member of the audience. The rest of the disks aren't of much interest.
Once again, Derek reaches beyond the pool of light, stopping before the last mirrored glimmer fades. He draws the disks back down into the light - pauses, smiles - Then, slaps his hands together. A brilliant flash of light bursts from his hands as thousands of dancing shards fall to the stage floor below. APPLAUSE Derek moves to his next effect. He tells the audience member, who he gave the DVD to, that he's got the an empty case for the the disk; which happens to be sealed with a prediction, her ring, money or the like. (This not only promotes his name, his product -it's a great piece of interaction between the magician and his audience) Kregg
