Besides performing magic, what else do you offer your audiences?
Mime, Origami, Charicatures, Balloons? Are there any other "special" bits you share with them, that maybe highlight other skills you have. This also can be a great tool to separate you from average magicians. So anyone do anything "special"? |

I have been a professional juggler, and a stand up comedian for twenty years, and a student of magic for the same amount of time, so my show is a comedy monologue featuring 30% juggling, and 70% magic. That being said the thing that sets me apart is my comedians approach to both juggling, and magic.

I think what you are meaning to ask is "What other variety skills do you put into your performances." People who offer nothing but magic in their performances are neither entertaining, nor magcians, but I'm pretty certain that wasn't what you ment.

Wow - how easy to misinterpret type!?
as Jack stated "What other variety skills do you put into your performances." - this is what I meant btw! I do a few napkin effects - Starcle & Napkin Rose, also some fast paintings. |

You do origami, charicatures, napkin rose, and balloons on stage as part of your show in front of a live audience. Aren't those skills best used for close up, or walk around performing? I do about 20 rubber band tricks, the napkin rose, the dog made from beads, but not on stage.
Am I missing something? Al Angello

Limiting what should be done, to what is usualy done is to restrain art in an unproductive way. If he does those things on stage and they aren't entertaining, I would agree, however any method you can find that does the job of entertaining your audience is the right one. Doubly so if no one else has ever done it, that makes you entertaining, and a pioneer. "For me, I shall choose the road less traveled."
Myself, while I am blessed with a myriad of skills other than magic and entertainment. I am afraid none of my other skills are performance arts. |

I can balance a tea spoon on my nose, but when I do it my wife kicks me. I can twirl a pen around my thumb in either direction, and for that one I'm waiting for David Lettermen to call me for stupid human tricks. I can tie a knot in a cherry stem with my tongue, but only my grandchildren want to see me do it. I am one of the few people on earth that can do the boomerang rubber band trick. I have dedecated my entire life to learning worthless little diddies like that, but on stage I'm all about laughs per minute.
