I agree that there are a lot of effects on the market today that at one time would have appeared in a magazine or collection of effects. But such is the modern age of the Internet where people can easily produce downloads of quick tricks and sell them for whatever they feel appropriate.
One advantage of this can be that the effects are taught in much greater detail than they would perhaps be in a magazine. At least, the good guys do this. Alan gives two handlings of the effect on the download. If you are looking for an inexpensive and most likely more practical version of Passin Through, this is pretty nice.

Ok, so most of the talk so far was comparing Alan's one with earlier one by Kevin.
But, how about the actuall effect, and audience responses? Is Alan's one a good one? What reactions do you get? Can the coin be signed? (they didn't show that in video) thanks |

The coin can be signed. Unfortunately, I have not had much chance to perform this effect since I don't have room to carry bottles with me at my restaurant gigs. I did perform at a party recently and they did have plastic water bottles but I couldn't find a good way to get into the effect.
However, when the occasion arrises, I will use the trick. I can say, though, that when practicing it, it seems like it would be very practical. I mean, it's pretty much impromptu and the handling couldn't be easier.

Heres my two cents.... I personally like to know as many ways to ways to do one effect, then one way to do one. It helps , as we all know, to switch things up so you can do the same effect at the next table, but looks different to the first if they are still watching you. (which if you are even within earshot they seem to be....lol) And before I get blasted, yes you need to know and PRACTICE those many ways so they are as fluid as if you only knew one. I like Alans handling, and If it is borne of others so be it. Standing on the shoulders of giants as they say.
I don't care how fast or slow you are.... As long as I am faster.. -J-

I'm really sick of these coin in bottle things... The only ones I really find impressive are when the coin is much too big for the opening, or when the cap itself gets in there. that's impossible. When you can just slip it in the top who cares if its signed... I'm not saying this is a bad effect but from the demo its not that impressive or visual and not inherently impossible with that huge opening.

I don't have the trick and,
the demo I think looks superb! Though, I do not know how much set up involved. I think getting coin signed, then doing setup, then showing the trick is tough. I wish I could see the trick from the moment you borrow and sign coin till the end. As that is what spectator would see. Unless you want to say that the coin we see in his hand in the beginning, IS the signed coin. (which would be a miracle) |

So, when you give it to the spectator, if they wantthe coin, they will have to take it home and use pliers to get it out. Seriously stunning.

I own Passing Thru, and I can see how many would say this is the same thing, sans the gimmick. However, this trick specifically says it can use a signed coin. Now, I can use a signed coin with Passing Thru, though it is not explicitly mentioned for Passing Thru. So my question is, is there anything "interesting" about Alan's trick that allows you to use a signed coin? In other words, is there anything this illusion has that Passing Thru does not?

Actually Passin Thru has something that Alan's version does not: a gimmick. Not that gimmicks are a bad thing. But Alan's version is something you can do more or less on the spot without have to look for the right kind of bottle.
And I completely disagree with the arguement that the coin has to be bigger than the opening. What's amazing about the effect is that the coin penatrates the bottom of the bottle. Who cares how big the opening is? Signed or unsigned is a personal preference.

I'm guessing no, but I can't be sure. It is too bad the demo video does not show the trick from beginning to end, i.e. with the spectator signing the coin. |

With all the hype around CIB's these days, thought I'd resurrect this thread.
This is a very good, impromptu CIB that I feel has been lost in the shuffle. It is about as impromptu as it gets. You can borrow a bottle, borrow a coin and do the effect without any set up of the bottle. I think Alan sells this for about $20. Well worth it IMHO. http://www.alanrorrison.com
