I saw a recent "news" spot on the use of birds in cultural rituals and the concern re: transmission of bird flu, and was wondering if it would pertain to pieces of dead, preserved bird as well as live or recently-dead but definitely fresh bird.
Fortunately, the fleas on my nutria paw should carry nothing worse than bubonic plague, so I don't have to worry about the whole bird flu thing Chris |

Just came across this thread and thought I'd add my 2 cents regarding the Achilles Monkeys Paw. Ghoulchaser Magic started distributing these a while back and have received nothing but praise and compliments from purchasers. It is ridiculous to compare Dougs (Higley) monkeys paw to this one. Of course Dougs is superior, but consider the Monkeys paw we sell is approx $9.99 and is perfect for intimate or impromptu performances. A small group, one on one or in the streets. I have performed it for several people who would not even touch the thing! Doug obviously makes the absolute best props on the market. We also sell a rubber shrunken head (which is a best seller) that most people hang from their car mirrors. Obviously Dougs shrunken head is superior (I will be contacting you soon Doug for purchase of one) but for the average spectator/person, sometimes the simple seed placed in the mind is enough. Karl Achilles is very talented and we are proud to carry his monkeys paw. Lets not forget how Blaine started, bringing simple store bought magic to the streets.

Hi Mike! Thanks for the kind words. I absolutely agree about the Monkey's Paw Trick you sell. Brilliant and the price is right. I wouldn't be concerned though Mike, you sell a whole ton more than I ever will! Besides two different birds...one is a dynamite street or 1 on 1 presentation of a shock effect and the other pretends to be a museum exhibit allowing for a potentially elaborate story.
I might mention to the readers here that when I buy magic it's either from a creator of the trick, or if from a dealer it has been Mike's Ghoulchaser by choice. Mike F runs a 1st class ship and offered me something I really like to get PERSONAL service.

Okay, now you've got me all curious . . . I'm going to try to make my own monkey's paw! (Not that I'm slighting yours, Doug, but some of us are still starving students . . . *grin* )

Darwin says that you can't do it.
Longfellow says that only god can make a monkey's paw. Handa says that Higley is god. |

Doug's Monkey's paw looks perfect. I have fooled scientists with it who do research with monkey's. They think it is real.
I don't know how much just a monkey's paw would cost (I got mine as a package) but PM Doug and ask him. I doubt it would be that much more than a cheap copy I think and you would regret getting the cheap one if anyone ever showed you his Higley (that sounds a little sick). Plus, they make a great conversation starter as an ashtray...the politically correct people think this is wonderful. |

Thanks Craig BUT I don't think they are 'perfect'...glad you do though.
I don't like to mislead anyone and I have this on the site as my explaination of what they are intended to be: "Note: My Props for The Dark Museum offer the 'essence' of something as most theatrical and film props do and are not actually Forensic intentional. The idea is for something that can pass a brief exposure under the conditions and dynamics of a 'trick' being performed...as opposed to being studied closeup looking for fingerprints or by say, a classroom biology session. How REAL are they? Well, REALISTIC is more accurate in the fleeting use in performance and acceptibility of the general public. I try and not give the impression to a potential magic buyer that the props are anything but Props that can creep out the intended 'victim' during the routine. The props work like any Illusion and must be presented so that they retain their essence and of course the Illusion itself..." AS to making just a Paw...you're much better off getting the DM ETMP set. You can always use the Paw seperately.

Now here's another idea . . . some of these effects could be expanded into quite different story lines with a little change in apparatus. Has anyone considered using, say, alligators' feet or cats' paws? The Bone Room carries quite a bit in that vein.
Cheers! Keith
