Ive recently bought Trevor Duffies 'Smoke', but getting the chemicals required has proved more difficult than I expected. I did manage to get my hands on 100ml of Ammonia but getting the Hydrochloric Acid is much more difficult. Any help would be appreciated.

Muriatic acid is used in swimming pools. It is diluted Hydrochloric acid at about 20%.

Thanks for that Bill, but I'm not sure if that will be strong enough. The instructions simply say hydrochloric acid. I've tried some at 10% and it didn't do anything.
Any other suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. |

I have talked with Trevor just recently and he told me that a hardware store there in the UK sells them as cleaning agents for brick and mortar. He told me exactly what it was called but it has slipped my mind. Ssomething like ----- salts.
I will get back with you on this. Jim http://www.jimpacemagic.com

This sounds kind of not-healthy to me, but there you go, lol. What is the effect produced?

Daz - smoke!
Jim, I think, you think ... Spirit of Salts. I tried this years ago when I did the smoke vase and the result was unstisfactory. The smoke was not dense enough. The density was only achieved using pure hydrochloric acid and A.N. Other ingredient. When I was doing it all that time ago, it wasn't easy to persuade a chemist to sell you the stuff, but these days it is nigh on impossible - I have tried. Best of, Dave

Hydrochloric Acid can be bought in some swimming pool supply houses. It is used as an algae killer. Look under the active indigents for it. You will more likely find it will be called muriatic acid as already mentioned. If you get lucky you will find it as 37% strength but now they are looking at alternate chemicals for the same job thus making it harder to find.JS
