Thanks Mike...the methods are very similar...it's the handling that differs slightly but the DVD though goes into great depth on an effect Steve B just touched on in his series. There's a nice conversation between the two that enlightens the viewer as to which came first and how they developed independently.
The DVD is so well produced (Ellusionist did a 1st rate highly professional job) and the photograpy so clear it is very easy to watch for entertainment purposes as well. Wayne is a natural in front of the camera, very relaxed...like a young 'old' friend.* I'd like to see his show some day. There are numerous chapters on the different approaches to the effect...containing actual performances and then detailed explainations...it's a bragain and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Even though I had figured out a method prior to recieving the DVD (well...my own version of it anyway) Wayne goes into so much detail as to HOW to use it and use it WELL to get the most reaction that I thought at the time I first watched it, it could have been double the price and I would have recieved value. Let me know what you think when you get it Mike. (* No, I don't know Wayne Houchin)

A & B Blood Saturated solutions of Potassium Thiocyanate and Ferric Chloride. Let the first solution dry and use the second wet as on a knife blade. It's very effective looking "instant Blood"

If it was the National Geographic show on stigmata, the two chemicals were Iron Chloride and Potassium Cyanide. However, Potassium Cyanide is highly toxic, and getting some these days would be next to impossible. Actually, the compound used is potassium thiocyanate (as mentioned as a component of A-B blood). The cyanide ion (CN-) really has a bad rap, since in its free form it is, of course, highly toxic. However, many cyanide-containing compounds are entirely non-toxic. Case in point: potassium thiocyanate (see the MSDS linked below). Oh, and one other thing. KCN (potassium cyanide, the toxin you were thinking of) is used extensively in metallurgy, and is readily available. In fact, you can pick it up from Fisher for as little as $75 for a half kilo. Not recommended by the surgeon general, though, eh? "Looks Like Blood" (making your own A-B blood) Potassium Thiocyanate MSDS Cheers! Keith
