Other than stage makeup and its application for type of lighting used, is there a necessary and different approach to makeup for video recording of a performance? This performance is to be recorded in a blue/green studio and transferred to DVD format.
If you'ved experienced a visual difference I'd like to hear from you. I'm still waiting to hear from Ben Nye Makeup for any suggestions. |

When I was in college, I had to take stage makeup for my photo degree. I also have done quite bit of photo work.
My experience has been that the stage makeup is more pronounced to play at a distance and extreme lighting (spots). Video makeup might be closer to photo makeup than stage makeup. I would rather go that direction than lean towards the stage side. A lot has to do with what type of makeup you use. Pancake, liquid, creme sticks or a combination of them. Each has their own qualities and limitations. By chance, is there anyway you can talk to someone at local university in the theater department that might help or advise you. They can help you with the skin tone match also. The Richard Cortisan (sp) book is still the bible on stage makeup. Richard

Thanks for the ideas Richard. I was also thinking of such but have decided to do what Kregg, another member suggested. I'll just hire professional makeup for this purpose. I'm never afraid to do, on my own, what I can but this is one area that I'm not experienced with. I'm just not sure how my theatrical makeup will do in a small video studio. Would be a shame if all went well with the exception of my face looking "odd" to a viewer.

Good idea Randy. Once he gets the basic color scheme set for you, you should be able to do it later yourself.
