Remember that metal is a good conductor of heat and if it gets hot inside it will get hot outside. You could put a metal one in a Vernet and give yourself a little more time.

Hoyles in the UK sell a metal TT for £2.50 (approx $4.50) here.
As Kirk has said, you don't want to be wearing this when it's heated: it's going to conduct heat all the way up from the tip. Richard [Just noticed that that website hasn't been updated for a while: maybe you should give them a call before ordering just to make sure that they're still trading]

I'm looking for a TT that can carry something smoldering inside.

Tin foil in a regular tt works for me.

With tin foil in a TT, wouldn't the heat eventually melt the TT? This TT is going to be under near-flame conditions.

Depends on what is smoldering. Different kindling points, etc.

Try the Silicone FrediUp tip advertised here. It won't conduct heat the way a metal one does, and silicone is rather heat resistant.
Can you give us more of an idea what you're going to have in it? It sure would save a lot of guess work.
