Mr. Ammar,
You have stated in a previous post that the only material that gets focused rehearsal time nowadays is that which will be used in the immediate future. When you were in the infancy of your magic career, and perhaps before you were fielding any professional gigs, how much time (est. hours per day/week) were you dedicating to practicing/rehearsing/reading/creating, and honing the skills that got you to where you are today? Also, I would imagine that you have read just about every book on magic known to man (including books/lecture notes of other performers' material). How important is it for budding magicians to read regularly and understand the theory/technique/characters of magic's past? Sincerely, David |

I think of a saying from Zig Ziglar when I consider this topic. He said, "You can tell how tall a buidling is going to be by how deep they dig the foundation." Great saying, huh? I think the same is true of a career in magic. You want a broad, deep foundation if you intend to build a solid career on it. Everything you read, study, learn, observe, rehearse, and every experience you gain is contributing to the size of that foundation.
So in the early days I tried to read, study and rehearse more than anyone in his right mind would do. I actually looked at it that way, calling it the "More Than Anyone In His Right Mind Theory of Success." What person in his right mind would begin rehearsing the minute he wakes up? Or practices in church or while driving? Or tries to dream about it as he falls asleep? In those days you actually could read everything as it came out, and still have time to go back to read back issues of all the old magazines. All I can say now is that I'm glad I did it when I could! |

Funny that you should mention practicing while driving:
