I know this has probably been asked already but I did a search and could not find just what I was looking for. Some of the props I have,as well as the ones I am still building for my new kids show are on the large size. Things like the "performing pachyderm and a very large set of Hippity Hop Rabbits. These as well as a number of other props just won't fit into some trunks. What do any of you use to carry large props to a show? They all fit easily into my car but I don't want them out just getting beat up during traveling. Any and all ideas would really help.
Thankyou Steven |

I have performing with big propos as you are saying. I do putting mine in a big case with a lid and have been putting in foam and sponge and poistyrene for stopping breaking.
I have a special space in my car trunk for leaving magic and putting in magic when I am driving to a show. Sometimes if I have more things in my show and have no space in my car I make a extra box on top and a roofbar and put things in a box and use cloth ans sponge to wrap them up on top of car. Then plastic wrapper to making sue it is protected with rain.
Think not what magic can do for you, but what you can do for magic.

Thanks for the post. I guess I will have to go with a really big suitcase. One on whells I guess. The props are quite large and the foam thing is good to keep them in good condition. Nothing worse then seeing a magician use trashed props.

Walmart, etc. sells light weight trunks, kind of like dorm room trunks, which can handle some of those props. They are inexpensive, and would be better than lugging in the tricks piece by piece.

It all depends on the size of your props, but I find that underbed plastic tubs are good, since they are shallow. Put some polyfill in there to keep the props separated and in place, and they usually fit on the back seat of a car, and can of course be stacked. All of my props are stored in appropriate-sized ziplock bags if possible, if not then large non-ziplock bags, and the instructions are stored with them when not using them, and then placed in underbed plastic tubs, and then stacked. Larger props go in larger bins, but I always do my best to keep all props in "new" condition as much as possible. Hank Moorehouse taught me that early on, and it is a good habit to get in to.

I guess I just have to get snaller props. Just kidding. I checked out the walmart trunks and they might work. I just don't want to get this act all together and realize I have to carry in 3 or 4 trunks to a show. Not bad if I am doing the act at a school but to take that much in to a birthday party is going to get old real fast. I could use the smaller set of Hippity Hops that I have. They are the mak set and will do for closeed in shows. The other set I have is 20" tall and 6" wide, really big set. Then the Performing Pachyderm that I have is 21" tall and 19" wide, another big prop. I know someone else here at the Café' is looking for some fiberboard cases and that would work really good for me to. Light weight but will hold a big set of props. Unable to find anybody that sells them in the size I am looking for. Oh well I will keep looking. Thanks for the help everyone. Anyone else have any ideas I will listen to all.
Thanks Steven |

I did look at a few web sites and could not really tell if they would be the right sizes. Mostly round but I did find a few square. I guess I am just goin gto go to my local music shop and look at what they have. My memmory is not what it use to be but I seem to remmember that our high school band had some they kept sheet music and misc. things when we went to march in a parade. And also I think I have seen some used in photography places also. Like I said my memmory is not that good anymore. Thanks Marvello for the posts.

Marvello thank you so much for the links. I can say that these are getting real close to the cases I am looking for. Some of them in the link say that they are lined with wood and others look like they are but don't say it. Do you or anyone here use any of these cases? Just curious what the weight is like.
mws7020 how much can you get in that case? It is a nice one. Did you get it off their web site or in a store? If it was in the store was it in the camara dept.? Steven |

Fiberboard is lightweight but sturdy, which is why drummers like them - hauling drums around is a big pain in the butt so if anyone has figured out the right way to carry around heavy bulky items it's them. I used to play bass guitar in a national touring band, and all of the drummer's equipment was stored in fiberboard cases. We used to gig and tour A LOT and I don't recall any problems with the cases at all. The wood does not really add much weight to them at all - I think that the weight is listed on that web site for each case, and you will see that it is not much at all - the wood is there for stability, but it is only plywood usually, or pressboard. You will probably want to line it with some egg foam or something like that to keep stuff in place and safe, of course.

There again, the small stuff is what I should have done. Not really but never really thought about looking at yard sales for bags or cases of any kind actually. Good idea.
Marvello, I will give them all a better look and see what those cases weigh. Again thanks all. Steven |

I have a show with some good size props. I'd like a case which is:
Lighter than my Leffler pro talbe... if possible, less than 15 pounds empty. Large capacity, to hold dove to rabbit cylinders, axtel puppets, etc... At least 36 inches high and 16 inches wide... flat on top for use as a table... As quick to set up as my Leffler table, just open and go... I've been on a years-long quest and still I haven't found it. The hardest attribute to find in a case this size is the light weight (less than 15 pounds). Any suggestions?
