Hi all. I've gotten into mentalism recently, (used to be a card guy) and I discovered that I love it... Nothing like having to think on your feet during a performance.
But that's not that point, I just like typing meaningless sentences. I've been going over the list of things that I think a mentalist should be able to do. My whole patter goes along the lines of "I'm not a special person, I just have some abilities that I have been able to hone. Now for a bit of background. A few years ago I found a rubik's cube (didn't even know that they are still making them) and after some time I found some easy to remember algorythmss that make it easy to solve the cube in under three minutes. I was wondering if anyone else thinks that I would be a good effect to study the outside of the cube, and then be blindfolded in the conventional manner, and then solve the cube without sight (so they think) in about three minutes? I was thinking that it would be good because everythign could be axaminable, and even if they suspect that I can see, most people are amazed when you can solve a cube anyway. Plus it would only be a few minutes. You know, have people mix the cube, check out the blindfold, and then solve the cube... I'd say the routine would be about 7 minutes, stretchable to ten. Any thoughts?

Well there *are* people who do this (btw I use the petrus method and I'm down to about 35 sec, what do you use? Fridrich?) blindfolded...
Though I've heard estimates more about 20-40 min to memorize and plan a cube to *actually* do it blindfolded... Since most people don't realise that the last 2/3 sections are usually completly memorized, I've always thought that doing it behind your back with 3 peeks might be a way to go if you actually wanted to include this(though I think it might be seen more as a skill than magic even blindfolded... which might be what your going for). Planning the first section in your mind and then peeking the last parts might be a way to go, if you were presenting it as a skill, at least imho. (They'll just remember you doing it behind your back with the occasional check to make sure your on track) I would love to hear how it works out if you do put this into a show though!!! |

Oh no... I'm not doing it without being able to see... I'd just be doing it blindfolded. Major difference.
And I don't think what I have you would call a system... I just work from the top down. I wasn't thinking of doing it as a form of magic, more like a memory/math stunt.

I actually open my mentalism act by solving the cube without a blind fold... I do it in about a minute, and it immediately establishes me as someone with a "strong mind."
It gives me almost instant credibility |
