I don't believe I have ever read about Houdini having an affair... with a psychic no less??
Houdini loathed people that claimed to have the "gift" Interesting, I will no doubt see it, but I probably won't like this film...

I'm with you Tony...
Has anyone out there read anything to suggest Houdini had an affair? The mere fact that Bess traveled with him on the road make me very skeptical in this matter. More imortantly, if it is not true, then Hollywood is showing artistic licence in creating an aspect of his life to sell the movie rather than tell the story. I am hoping that movies about real people from history can stay more true to the character and not alter the truth to suit them.

There was rumor he was with Jack London's (call of the wild) widow. However it seems Houdini was shy and reserved, and never went any further than late night dinners and the like.
She speaks to this in her writings. |

The Houdini Bio done by Ken Silverman is the first to expose this 'affair' between Jack London's widow and Houdini.

The tv movie with Paul Michael Glazer implies an affair with Daisy White. Ruth Brandon Implies an affair in her book, but the impression is with Margery, not Daisy. Its been awhile since I've read it, but I think the Gresham bio might mention in an indirect way an affair with Daisy.

A couple of years back I had a part in the film Broke Back Mountain. The director was Ang Lee. On set I was talking about escapes etc. and it was mentioned to me that Ang Lee was going to direct a movie about Houdini. It was supposed to take place in 1925. It involved an affair and it was supposed to star Tom Cruise as Houdini.Crazy eh!!!!!!!!!!! Now it's a different director and cast.

If it's the same movie, and I suspect it is, it is based on Houdini's exploits in Scotland. I had a newspaper from Edinburgh interview me about Houdini, to tie in with the fact that they were filming in that city. I got in touch with the production company offering my services as a consutant (Houdini history rather than escape consultant)They are apparently based in Australia with a UK office. I had a nice reply saying they would get back to me if they needed me.

Ed Underwood was in contact with the folks behind this to attempt a release coupled to WEAR 2007. They hemmed and hawed, and he finally got the feeling that they didn't expect the film to make much money.
As for license about biographical accuracy, there is a very fine documentary on Houdini in which someone who actually knew Houdini was asked by someone quite a bit younger whether Houdini was a real person. He remarks that it seems to him that the pinnacle of fame in America is reached when people misktake you for a fictitious character. Perhaps someday we can expect a film in which Houdini and Sherlock Holmes get together to bust up a ring of vampires or something. Yours, Paul |

...I vote that the Houdini-Conan Doyle-Vampire flick is done all CGI with celebrity voices! Now that's entertainment!
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
