Failed memory here...please can someone remind me of the name of the trick where a card rises from the deck, when the deck is held in a clear plastic bag? Thank you!

It's very, very good!
You do have to be careful on your angles but with some handling, these can be overcome up to a point. I highly recommend it except to people working in and around London ;-)

I learned a similar effect from Richard Sanders and I think its in one of his dvd's... Its impromptu and it uses a silk... I took the same method and applied it to a ziplock bag, and it was not bad looking... I don't think this method replaces mofo, but its another option if mofo cant be done at the time... I would avoid the ziplock brand bags though because they are made thick and stiff... I would go with the cheap ziplocks which are thin and flimsy but good for the effect..

Being a fan of different card rise techniques, I have to give this marks for a unique and clever approach. Ultimately I would say there are other (and in my mind) more practical approaches to doing a card rise (even in a plastic bag) that are less expensive and less angly than this MOFO thang.
David Forrest's A.I.R. and certainly Sander's "RISE" are gimmickless, examinable beauties that can be done with a borrowed deck....they do require some time and practice. I disagree with "iamslow".....MOFO is nothing like Sanders "RISE" as MOFO relies on a gimmick that after some repeated use I have deemed too fidgety.....others love it....I have ultimately decided I don't. |

If Tony has modified the gimmick, that's swell.
I haven't received the update. |

Or at least obtain a set of instructions so that they might attempt the modification(s) themselves. Hopefully, yes. If not, that would be a shame since the modification so quickly after release of the "original" suggest that the original was possibly not quite ready for prime time and turned out to be a prototype. BTW, what type of modification can be done to the gimmick--other than buying a smaller or larger version of the "item"? I'm at a loss as to how the original gimmick could be modified in any significant way or manner. Can original purchasers obtain the modification info from Tony as a .pdf download? Thanks for any info. Mike

Dick Koornwinder, say 20 years ago, nailed me with a rising card in a clear bag (before ziplocks) that had a twist tie to shut it. Still don't know how he did it. He did it for me at Fred Kaps' home.

Tony has some other methods for this too... one is a very attractive solution to this.
I've heard there is a *TON* of work that goes into this just to make it, I doubt any serious modification could be done at home. mofo has rocked since it came out and no additional versions will change that, imho. |

I emailed Tony to ask about the modified version seeing as I bought the original. I, too, cannot see how the gimmick can be modified except in size.
Nathan, any clues??? With the angles, I "see-saw" the deck prior to the rise to show there are no gaps or protrusions but during it, there is not much you can do.

If you use a Devano deck (as I do,) here's a cool little thing along these lines. Have a card chosen, returned, etc. Now, keep the deck horizontal and insert it into a Ziplock bag, weight side toward the bottom, of course. Zip the bag shut.
Now, grab the bag by the zipper and lift it quickly straight up. The tension of the bag against the front and back of the pack will keep the card from rising. Now, have a spectator hold his hand out palm up. Simply touch the bottom of the dangling bag to his palm, taking the weight off the bag, and the card mysteriously rises inside the bag with YOUR hand nowhere near it. It looks very cool. Remove the pack and continue your routine. If nothing else, it's cool to do for other magicians. |
