Just curious if you feel it's a little too available to have a topic in the open (by open I mean not like the banquet section where you need 50 posts to view it) for sections such as "gaffed" where you plainly say in the title how an item is not as it appears. I guess it's the equivalent of having a $****$ section for coins out in the readily seen public and yet that is one thing we really don't want people to be aware of. Just seems like we are tipping a lot right now by having sections that are not "lockable" in the general Café viewing area. I understand that it could be argued that people tip these things in their posts but a lurker would have to read that specific post to know so instead of just having to peruse the site and see something as a "trick" deck as a header, but let's not speed up the tipping of such great weapons. This would also ensure that there will be more tipping in those sections as people often do not know how to write good coded posts and would congregate into these concentrated specialty headers. I would just say to make those specialty sections like the banquet section...a place where you earn the right to talk openly about such things.

Thanks for bringing this subject up. I personally have mixed feelings on the matter, given the amount of exposure and access to secrets via advertising during David Blaine and Criss Angel specials, book stores like Barnes & Noble, stores such as Toys - R - Us, Costco, the internet in general and the list goes on. We as magicians tend to be paranoid about such things, when in reality most laypeople either don't really care or are way too lazy to actually do any research into such things.
On the other hand, I also tend to view our tiny world of magic much like a Gentlemen's Club. If it were open to everyone, it would no longer have any real value. Yet, if magic is to ultimately survive for future generations, we need those neophytes that start out because they are curious, then eventually get bit by the bug as it were. Having said all that, I am definately on the fence regarding this issue. I will, however, give this matter some serious thought over the next few weeks and will make a decision one way or the other - I promise.
