Do people recognize the moment that I clearly recall as a youngster? The moment when you overcome the desire you have as a child to explain how a trick is done? And you graduate to performing seriously?
The first self-worker I performed 'seriously' was a four ace effect from Paul Clive's 'Card Tricks without Skill'. The spectator cuts the deck randomly into four piles. You direct her in shifting random numbers of cards fom the top of one pile to another. Two from here onto here, five fom here onto here etc., etc. The denoument has her turn the top card of each pile to reveal an ace. Susequently I found the addition of elementary sleight of hand to a self worker like this, made for a powerful effect. Brian Caswell (www.unearthlymagic.com) |

I think mine might have been Sim Salabin, where you had to spell out the card and cut the deck or something.

I saw a magician perform for my class(kindergarten I think) I told my dad about it and he taught me three effects. The 21 card trick, The key card principle and a force which is essentially self working. Those were good times. Magic is still as fun for me as it was then which makes me happy.

I learned my first ever magic trick when I was about 9 years old from The Book of Knowledge. It is a self-working Cut to the Aces effect.
But unfortunately, when I re-read the book again, I noticed it doesn't credit anyone. But this effect is also sold as the Sick Aces... Alel |
