Vernon told me that Luis Zingone adapted the shift in a very effective way. I have used this idea when I do it. Instead of just putting the left little finger at the rear-center of the pack, place it directly on the lower left corner and press so that the upper half is firmly against the left palm. If it is stable enough, it can stay absolutely stationary while the lower half is brought over the top.

Instead of the lower half opening widely, like a book, as it comes over the top, try to keep the two halves of the deck as parallel as possible as the lower half is brought to the top. Also, instead of doing it in three steps, flip, flop, plop...........try to do it in one........bang! Create a little tension before you release, then relax and the lower half will practically hop to the top on its own.
