I am interested in doing the misers dream in my restaurant work. After a lot of research I have almost decided to get Joe Porpers Cocktail Miser's Dream. Does anyone out there use this and if so can you answer the following:
Does it reset? How many coins can in produce (total)? Is it examinable? Could it be adapted to prduce 10 pences instead? (if not this is not such a problem as I use half dollars in my restaurant work so quarters would not seem totally out of place) Thanks in advance Craig |

Craig,
I don't own that version so I can't answer your speciific question. The version I use in restaurants is from J.B. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. It's pure sleight so there are no concerns about which kind of coins can be used. It's very effective. Check it out if you have not already done so. Till we appear again, Kipp Sherry |

Jim Pace has a really cool one....I've used elements of it in my work for quite some time. Go to http://www.jimpacemagic.com and buy everything....lol

I think the misers dream is a very annoying trick to do in restaurants even though it might not seem like it is..

What?
What is annoying about this beautiful effect? I can see it if a person where placing the coins into a bucket.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Eric, whihc of the many products on Jim's site is the misers dream routine on? and why do you think the effect is annoying iamslow? What is your justification for that remark? Craig |

I also find the effect to be annoying because of the loud noice. In every miser's dream routine I have heared of requires noice to help create the illusion, and for other tables and people trying to carry on conversations, it would be very annoying, even though it is a beautiful effect. So I stand by iamslow that miser's dream is not a very good effect for restaurant work.

No noise, then do it to your pocket, using the sylvester pitch and have the other coins already in your pocket. Then your can produce loads of £2 coins for example, and show how when you get somethign for nothing it is rarely worth it; showing all the £2s you have just produced have turned into 2p coins.
Another idea you could do a Miser's nightmare, start of grabbigna £5 coin, then only a £2, then just a £1, 50p 10p 2p nothing! Use SP, and just load the next coin when you go to the pocket. |

I believe Shawn Greer does an excellent miser's dream on the Coinvention DVD (and thankfully it comes with an explanation). No gaffs, great effect.

In his book, the man with the $1.98 hands, Riggs uses a small paper bag to give the APPEARANCE of coins going in using the old dodge of holding the bag at the top and snapping your fingers. He has lots of other nice touches (including cookies) for a nice routine

Jim's Miser routine is on his VHS tape "Tricks from My Lecture."

I agree that if you wish to perform the misers dream in restaurants you will want to check out Jim's Video "Tricks From My Lecture." The routine that Eric is talking about is a fingertip version of the misers dream, which is very nice, but I like Jim's oiginal better.
I used to do this all the time at the restaurant and it KILLS! C |

Mike,
I went to David's site but didn't see his publication. Do you have any more info on how I could get this? Till we appear again, Kipp Sherry |

Has anyone tried one of the 'miser's dream cups?" I've got the glass version and am looking at the metal one.

Hey Kipp...if all else fails...contact Richard Kaufman for the back issue of Genii that Ben also had it published in!
