Tom, what would you erase to “shorten” the serial number of a bill? Bob |

There was a great effect in The Linking Ring 4 or so months ago involving a great bill routine.
I substituted the higher bill for a mismade bill, and that gets GREAT reactions.

Here is a tip for those that want to give away the mismade bill. Here is my development on the effect.
1) After getting the bill I will sign it so the spectators will know it is the same bill, but I do not tell them this. 2) After the bill is 'mismade' my signature is distorted. 3) If you examine the bill you can not tell the serial numbers are diffrent because my signature covers up the end of one of the serial numbers. The spectator will know nothing diffrent. This is what I do if I want to give the mismade bill away. What do you guys think? P.S. It does not have to be a signature that covers up the serial. You could also try rubber stamps that have your info on. Also, make sure to use a marker so that it can affectivly cover the serial. Posted: Apr 24, 2005 11:47pm ---------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Number one should read... 1) After getting the bill I will sign it. The spectators do not know why at the time, but later it seems to have been signed either to show it is the same bill or to make the effect more visible to viewers who are seated more futher away. |

I do not own a mismade bill but I'm now going to get one. How much longer is the serial number? Does it really stand out that much? Do people even know how many numbers are in a serial number?

If you opt to give the spectator the miss-made, it will cost you $1.50 (if you cut your own.)
Erasing the last few numbers from the serial number will not help at all since the numbers change in the middle, not the end. Very few people know that there are Two numbers on a bill. Removing (one of them) is very simple with a Q-Tip and nail polish remover. Bob |

Sorry, Bob, but you are mis-informed. Serial numbers are exactly that: serial! They are numbered one after another, so the only thing that changes in a "batch" is the last number. I have been erasing them for about thirty years now, and nothing has changed that I can see...

Sorry Paul:
I have been cutting them longer tan that and just finished cutting three sheets for the shop. The numbers on a given sheet do not change on the end. After each stack of 100 is cut at the Bureau of Engraving and the bills are sent to the bank the bills are sequential, but not on a given large sheet. I am holding a stack of 63 miss-mades in my hand right now. I cut three sheets each month and have for many years. Bob |

I think Paul may be referring to New Bills that you get sometimes..They are usually sequential by last number thus allowing for erasure for a given effect. For the sheet bills Bob is right on.Best

The serial numbers are applied vertically to a stack of sheets of bills. So the next number in the sequence is on the next physical sheet in the stack. A run of ten numbers requires ten physical uncut sheets of bills.

I have an old Canadian 100 dollar bill. I take a bill from a spectator, and tell the that it is conterfiet, then do a visual bill switch. and give them the 100 dollar bill and tell them that I make conterfiet money too, but this one didn't work out! Then I switch back the bill, then do a pen thru dollar!
