Still not understanding the proposed technology in that article, I wonder if the effect would be similar to that of the creature in movie 'Predator'. A push of a button and he blends into surrounding area.

I am pretty sure technology like this when available will be in the high thousands when/if released to the public.
I know it would make for a freakin killer trick though! |

Not so sure about making a trick obsolete, so long as you can disprove a known, or suspected method. But don't you hate it when you practice your sleight of hand for weeks, only to have them blame a gimmick that can do the same thing? Seems this disproving theory can only go so far before all you have left is proving the correct method, the one you are desperately trying to hide!
If such an invisibility cloak should come to be, some military would steal the prototype before it ever saw the light of day.
