In card magic a big movement will hide a small one. Make what you will of that.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

MY LORD more horrible moves have been done because of the misunderstanding of THAT statement tommy. Perhaps the Professor should have clairified that gigantic unnatureal movements actually call attention to the process. THE WHOLE PROCESS.

Yea the little move may be covered but unnatural huge moves leave the people thinking "I didn't SEE what happened, but something must have". Or when they backtrack in their mind they go straight to the really big moves. Like a beacon.

And Josh if you rely on what is being called "misdirection" MORE than Blackstone with the ducks, whoo hoo. Few tricks in magic rely more on what we are calling "misdirecton" than that. Michael is SO right. (sorry for misunderstanding)

This thread is NOT a form of what is called commonly "misdirection" Josh. Used properly, "misdirection" brings people right where you want them to be or need them to be in most cases. Which is Jonathans problem with the term I believe. This thread in your own words is not going where anyone wants it too.

(goofing around or not? Tough to tell)

Direct their attention where you want it.

Attention management.

A much neglected aspect of our craft.

I'm going to build a stage that moves from side to side, to cover my pass.

Whit,
"Josh the Superfluous' Easy to Master Attention Managementâ„¢"

Danny,
I was deliberately mocking the accepted meaning of misdirection.
Misdirection: when you try to control someone's attention, but accidently get them to look somewhere else.

Josh the problem with sarcasam on the internet is that it is tough to pull off. Thank you for proving that. It is why in the rules it is told to us not to try it as it gets into misunderstandings.

Sorry Danny,

I had a rough week, and was just taking it out on your ridiculous comment. I'm over it now.

But the point Josh is it isn't ridiculous at all. See Blackstones duck vanish.

I'm well rested, so here I go again.

Blackstone's use of attention control is excellent, I'm sure. So is Uri Geller's. It is equally important to accomplish what they do.

Much of my close up could not be performed without it. A big illusion show could conceivably be constructed without using it at all.

The ridiculous quote again:
"misdirection is even MORE essential if anything with bigger illusions. "

I'd love to hear a defense of this statement that justifies the word "MORE".

Since your rested read where I said MORE was an idiotic word to use. I can say idiotic because I said it so won't complain to management.

As in Blackstomes "ducks" as said earlier, without misdirection it does NOT work. Seems essential to me.

Just as with some close up (which I wont expose here).

So with all that heated discusion behind us, I think we all agree on the answer to DaiBato's question:

Can you out-focus to see those "magic eye" pictures?

When does your attention start to seek novelty?

And yes it's more properly stated as "audience attention management". The idea is to keep them occupied by things of interest, not necessarily focused upon anything in particular for any length of time. The good news on the "attention leading" side is that you are directing them to follow the flow of the action/magic itself as opposed to asking them to watch you wave your hands around or wait for the magic to happen.

Yes to flashpaper. Check out the first trick in the stranger card section of expert card technique. Wow! Also Eric's Firecoins (godhandz)
