I've never been one for using this technique. However last week I was a guest at a work function and I'd done some magic to colleagues at my table - I'd brought cards and sponges with me. Chatting whilst still at the table a little after my performance to a colleague he asked 'can you do magic with anything.. for example could you do anything with what's on the table?' With that I picked up an individually wrapped butter portion, busked some presentation to build an effect, and then vanished it. You will know how(!) Apparently he told other people afterwards about this later in the evening in a very complimentary way. The fact that this person was a good work friend and that I'd already done a load of magic already earlier gave me the confidence to do this impromptu effect I suppose. In the 'real world' to strangers where I might do only 2 or 3 effects (normally standing as well), its never entered my head to think about or practice a trick using this technique but buoyed by this experience I'd like to try the "salt-shaker/glass vanishing coin trick". So if the opportunity arises I will sit at a table and include this in a 2-3 trick set. My question is that if I've got to do the normal table-hopping 'hit and run' of 2-5 minutes you haven't got long to ditch the item... Any tips, methods, sources??? If I'm sitting with them for 20 minutes I'd be more confident about finding an opportunity to ditch or pocket the item!!

This may be something you save for when "the opportunity arises", business is slow and you have a few extra minutes.
Ditching shouldn't be a problem. Just pick the item up and put it away as you leave. In the case of the shaker/glass, coin trick you shouldn't have any worries since the item is returned to the table anyhow. |
