Huh? In the story "The Cheese Stands Alone," writer Harlan Ellison has a character find out that his greatest moment is to be found in a Big/Little Book in a strange book shop run by one of the three fates.
His "greatest moment" turns out to be catching a ball with his bare hand when he was 10! When I first read that, I felt bad for the character that he hadn't done anything else since the age of 10, then as I re-read it I thought; "10 or not, all he's done with his life that can be considered 'great' is catch a baseball?" I can think of two things that I would be happy to find in MY big/little book. One; I was waiting for my mother to be released from the emergency room (long story) and saw two paramedics coming out of an ambulance. One was on the ground but couldn't put down his end of the stretcher to get the air bottle the other was holding and the other couldn't get out while holding the air bottle. I ran out, grabbed the air bottle and the three of us ran to the ICU! Two; coming out of a seriously crowded movie, I saw a little boy huddled up against the wall crying. Holding him up so he could see where his parents were, they managed to see him first! Happy ending. Those two events take a lot of blots off my karma!

My daughter was born cesarian in an event that nearly killed both she and my wife. Neither died, and watching her come out was definatly an event in my book.
If you are talking about good deeds, as in you helping the lost child, I have plenty of those in my book, but I don't feel like those are defining moments in my life.

I'm glad things worked out for you and your wife and child. In the story, the character is told that he'll see "the best thing he's ever done." So that's what I was going with.

I'd go with nearly slugging the emergency room lacky, who was prioritizing people on medicaid wanting some antibiotics before my wife who was sitting almost unconscious, bleeding to death from an ectopic pregnancy rupture. Needless to say, a few more seconds would have put more than her on a gerney--and he knew it big time.

I think I just had one of the big moments yesterday...with the birth of my grandson. Time will surely tell how big this is.
