I loved this episode. (Animal magic)
As a pet owner, I am now committed to someday levitating my cat. Make fun if you will, but that was a funny segment. Especially if you've ever handled a house cat. I loved the street dove productions. I assume these were homing doves, as they flew away. I have no clue if the elephant vanish was camera or stooge enhanced, I'm not posting to get that thread going again. Criss definitely spends a lot of air time giving props to magicians/escapists/stuntmen who have gone before, and who are still working pros. I don't see anyone else putting McBride on TV, or referencing people who did these stunts before. Good for him. |

I was also impressed with this episode as there wasn't as much camera trickery and he actually performed "live" magic for a change. (Maybe he shoulda edited out his sloppy sleights on the motorcycle card catch - hehe).
Those were homing pigeons, as they were a lot larger than doves. I'm also on the fence on the elephant vanish, was it the real deal or did he cheat again. Paul Daniels also vanished an elephant about 15-20 years ago in a baseball field. Criss could've also done away with the bad camera cut on the pool table prediction, if he had used an Invisible Deck. Someone else performed this same effect, but the cards were mixed face down on the pool table. Rick

Paul Daniels also did work with primates as well. I have it on tape and it was his funniest episode. I also have that elephant vanish by him on tape too. Both Paul's and Criss' were done the same I feel. Both look equally incredible though.
I actually liked the dove productions (and I am definately not a fan of dove magic). It was nice to see them done with normal objects. The escape was excellent too. |

Gotta go with the concensus on this one. The motorcycle card trick was a tad lame and the pool table trick was nice, but had that odd walk behind the person standing at the table before placing the envelope.
The elephant vanish was beautiful and it was refreshing to see them include the outtakes of the scene with the chimps. Dove work has never impressed me, but the almond to bug switch was nicely done. |

It wasn't the walk behind the person where the dirty work happened.
They did do a continuous shot from when he picked up the envelope and walked around the pool table and placed the envelope down again. But notice when the camera cuts away to the different angle, how the envelope mysteriously changes position in that split second. This is where the C.A.M.E.R.A. technique was used. Rick

I have seen it now. Again very well performed. Again, harldy original. Now I cant keep off my mind if camera tricks were used again. I hope not, there werent necessary on this illusion, but remember what they say, kill a dog once and you are a dog killer for life.

Is this similar to david Copperfields orient express vanish, not the leviation part but the way the train/elephant dissapears. it seemed very obvious to me, and also if you look at the part where the kid in the crowd is explaining the trick, it shows you an above view of the illusion on the screen for a few seconds as the sheets are spun round. If you pause it right there you can see into the encloused sheets just enough to realise the elephant isn't there when it is spun around.
I wonder why they didn't use camera edits to get rid of the glitch, criss better hope that lay people don't see that mistake.
Its not what you do, but how you do it.
