Hey man, theres been quite a few times while busking or working in places that have security guards or cop's that I've tried to use them in my act, but they cannot due to the nature of their jobs, that sucks!
Anyone else encounter this? I mean seriously there was a time when they would/could assist. johnny

I saw an escape act (such a jerk I won't mention his name to give him any publicity) that asked some security guys watching the show to handcuff him. They did and he nearly broke his wrists and cut himself badly trying to get out of REAL cuffs. Served him right.

Hey, Johnny! Love the avatar! Security and law enforcement officers are tasked with observing and reacting. Anything that deters them from this assigned task is severely frowned upon by supervisors and managers. While helping you in the name of community good will some jerk in the back may take this as an ideal opportunity to pick the pockets of your spectators. Not a great reputation builder for you or your employer/sponsor. On the other hand, if the officer were watching the crowd and doesn't catch the thief he may, at least, deter him by his vigilence. Just one example of why officers are sometimes very brusk and business-like in public.
Now, on the other hand, if you make an arrangement with the crime prevention or community relations department of your local cop or security shop...these guys specialize in visibility, publicity and service. I don't do escapes and such...but a friend who frequently pulls off huge publicity stunts such as daring escapes and blind driving has never had a problem dealing with these departments...to good press for both parties. So many people have this image of cops as donut-munching-coffee-chuggers when they are truly the first line of defense for a civilized society.
