Hey everyone, whats a good way to light a match on stage? anywhere I can learn a good technique? I often see magicians pull out a match out of a pocket and strike it on thier shirt or something and it lights. Looking for a one handed technique

thank you

Hi Durgy--

What you are looking for is a "match pull". Several makes out there.

Tony Clark makes a nice one, try http://www.nnmagic.com (Norm Neilsen's company) He handles Tony's products.

Dove worker Amos Levkovitz (Not sure of the spelling) He was selling items a couple of years back. And I am pretty certain his version of the match pull.

Also, as usual, try magic dealers. If they do not have them, they will know where to find them.

And, of course, do a "web search" Type in "match pull".

Best of Luck,

I use Tony Clark's match pull gimmick. Works consistently every time.
Just do a google search for Tony Clark and check his website.

Don't forget Ian's Dependelite! At $3.00 a piece they are a bargain that work every time! Never had to use the backup one as they always worked.

He's here:

From your question, you ask how to light one handed, this is the old way of doing it and it looks surprising as noone today does it this way anylonger.

If you can find the kitchen matches that strike on any surface, then just use you thumb nail, you pants on your rearend, or the sole of your shoe. That is how they use to light matches.

Remember, if you are using a match pull you will have to replace your striking surface from time to time otherwise it can let you down...I found that one out the hard way.

Another option is to remove the striking surface from a box of matches and stick to the underside of your shoe (just near the heel so it doesn't touch the ground). Then you can remove any match from your pocket and strike it on the underside of your foot. If you'd prefer you could stick it onto the top or side of your table.

Cheers

Are you ready for the best and most affordable match pull of all time?

Just palm a match book and then do a one handed strike move. It really is quite effective and its just one less thing to have dangling around under your coat.

PM me if you would like to learn more...

Just got some dependelites
havent had a chance to play with them too much but seems like they work.
anyone know after about how many matches roughly should the surface be replaced

next question- where can I get regular wooden matches in those small match boxes (in toronto?) I only seem to find the match books, and I would like the wooden matches as they are a little longer

thanks
