Is Kirigami Rings only found in New York Symposium vol. 5? If so is there any other books, document, etc. that has a similar effect?
My overall goal is to get something close to the WOW and reflexions cards by Ian Rowland. |

Hi Tootall. Let me answer your question and also sort out some possible confusions.
Yes, the 'Kirigami Rings' trick by Isao Komine has only been published in NY Symp 5. I'm not aware of any similar effect, but then again it all depends what you mean by 'similar'. There are certainly many 'linked card' effects, by Paul Harris, Sixten Beme and others. 'Wow Cards' is an umbrella term, covering two kinds of weird cards I make. ReFlexions are cards slit and folded in an unusual way, often seeming impossible or counter-intuitive. FLink cards are cards permanently linked to other cards or other flat objects in a way that seems impossible, since even the closest examination reveals no joins. There is little correspondence between the Kirigami Rings effect and any of my Wow Cards. Nothing about the Kirigami Rings method has anything to do with either my ReFlexion or FLink cards. In particular, it is worth stressing that the way in which the paper squares in the Kirigami trick end up linked together has NOTHING in common with how I make my permanently-linked FLink cards.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have looked everywhere for this kirigami rings and too bad, it is only published in that book. With that said, (and I also cannot PM you) I have gotten the trapdoor card by Neale and also a few Martin Gardner books and also some other books which deal with paper and topological effects.
I have tried to put them all together to see if I could figure out your WOW cards. I have come to the conclusion that even though I have figured out a couple of them, not being able to see the card's front and back is dissapointing. Also, all of the Flink's you cannot see the top right of the card, and this again is dissapointing. I know on your site you are very strict about sharing information, but could you at least send me some pictures that show the front and backs of the cards? Never hurts to ask |

Ian, I'm a big fan of the 'Hypercard' effect, but this is the very first time I've ever heard of your 'Wow' cards. All I can say is... 'Wow!' Most accurate card effect name since 'NFW'.
When I win the lottery, the first thing I'm going to buy is a complete set. And believe me, I understand the reason for their price. Considering the design and craftmanship that goes into them, I think they are VERY reasonably priced. I'm sure I'll end up with at least a couple of them, no matter what. I've already gone back to look THREE times today, and I'm at work!

Tootall, there's no harm in asking so long as there's no harm in declining. Sorry, no, I can't undertake a bespoke photo session just for you. And I don't see what the 'top right' of the FLink cards has to do with anything.
airship - glad you like them. Your appreciation is appreciated, as they say.

Ok like I said it never hurts to ask. How about just one picture, I don't need a whole series or session as you called it. Just the back of one or two. Furthermore it wouldn't be bespoke if there was nothing to hide from showing the back.
Now the second point I feel I must make is about the Flinks. In the picture of them, the "slice" underneath is blocked from view at the top right. This is where I believe the sloution lies. If that isn't the solution I don't know why none of the shots show that corner. I apologize if I am wrong. These things are driving me crazy! |

Hi Tootall,
Just thought I would add a comment. I have recently had the pleasure of meeting up with Ian Rowland who kindly made some FLink cards for a good friend of mine, Daniel. The first time I saw the cards was in Blackpool where I had a close inspection. These things are amazing! It had me thinking all night! Infact let me correct myself, it has had me thinking all year! I can assure you that the corner has nothing to do with it! I think it is great what Ian is doing. And may I add that my friend Daniel is one lucky guy to have a set of these kindly made for him. Ian - I understand that you offered to make Daniel a set if he offered you a secret in return, can you recall the effect Daniel explained? I think you will find that I did most of the work! Think back to Blackpool! Surely this deserves a set of Flinks!? I hope all is well I really love these! Lets meet up again soon! Nick Crown http://www.nickcrown.com |

BTW Ian, I just purchased your Cold Reading book and read it in just 3 nights! 'Couldn't put it down', as the book reviewers say. I've got to say that all the reviews were right - it's an amazing piece of work. Thanks for delivering the goods!
I even went to Abebooks and ordered the Criminal Investigations book you recommended. I really, really wanted to order some WOW cards, but decided the Cold Reading book would be a better investment right now. So many toys, so little time (and money).
