Here is an idea and an explanation for you.
Let your MENTOR tell you and bring you along. That is what a mentor is for! He would know exact answers and we have generalizations. Man, this gets more and more confusing.

"Breath strips" are made by the Listerine mouthwash people. They are little strips that you put on your tongue. They melt on your tongue and keep your breath fresh more effectively than breath spray.

Danny,
He said that he wanted to see what I could come up with on my own and then work from there -- not sure what I think of that strategy, it's definitely putting the pressure on. But anyways, thanks again for all of the help. I'm sure it'll go great. I'll give an update tonight, hopefully. |

Well it all went just fine. The place ended up being kind of a dud, not that busy, just really relaxed -- much more of a bar type place than I expected. Didn't even end up using fiber optics or quicksilver (it was hard to find someone wearing a watch!). Just wasn't the right atmosphere to take out a bunch of ropes..... people enjoyed everything else though. I surprised myself -- didn't mess up anything at all for the whole 2 hours.
Sponge balls actually ended up playing really big, but it's hard at a bar without any real "table" to put the balls on... just used people's hands. I'm working a larger, more family-geared restaurant on Friday, that'll be the real test. I'm kind of thinking about bringing out my three shell game, that's a fun routine that I haven't done for a while.... |

Okay, so Friday has come and gone. My first restaurant.... I was kind of nervous for about my first 4-5 tables, which just came out in my patter, but definitely hurt the performance. After that, I got comfortable with everyone and made a lot of jokes that people laughed at, and people definitely reacted and tipped me! (I kind of think that it got better as the night went on simply because people were getting drunk) All in all, it ended up being a lot easier than I thought -- it was definitely crucial to take my time and really be sociable and friendly.
As for the actual effects: Pen through dollar and backlash played the biggest. Didn't get into stirring silver at all. I only did quicksilver a few times, but man -- people loved that. And fiber optics: the person who mentioned it before was correct. This is not good for a restaurant. It seems like people really like tricks that get to the point quickly unless they're watching a stage show or something, and fiber optics really lollygags as it goes along. Only did it twice, but people didn't really react and weren't "hooked" into the magic. Thanks for all of the advice and support! |
