I have just read everything in this PDF. The methods are easy (intermediate) and the thinking involved her is very very good. Seeing double is my favorite and I cannot wait to try this out on a few people, once I have had a little time to play with it. I would pay for this type of routine if offered in an e-book, no questions asked IMO. GREAT job ZACH!!!!

Thank you sir...much appreciated.
I just wanted to post a quick note here, before I can get to the emails and PM's in the next few days. A few have commented on how the 2nd routine reads good, but they wouldn't perform it due to the fact that it uses cards or requires quite a bit of gimmicked setup. One thought I've been tossing around is that you could easily perform the routine with gaffed notecards with words written on them. This would take it out of the realm of card mentalism and into something completely different. Any flash card sort of thing would work as well. The other thing I wanted to comment on was that a few people have said that they feel as though the first two effects are just transpositions, and not "thought switching". In this case, yes, the actual base effect is a transposition, but by careful usage of language and scripting, you create the illusion in the mind of the spectator(s) of a thought switch. Lastly, a few people have commented on how the billet effect is almost identical to a few others they have seen in print. I am in the process of checking that out for myself (not that I doubt their word, but I do like to verify myself), and will post as soon as I have further details. So yes, I am aware of that, and many thanks to those who have pointed that out to me. Best, Zach Allen |

You may want to check out Tervil in "Practical Mental Magic". You'll notice something interesting.

Oops. I posted before refreshing my screen. I see you already know about Tervil. Sorry for restating what you already found out.

Hey Zach,
The second effect is in Anneman. It's called "Tervil" It's also in Mark Striving's SUC booklet, called "Invisible booktest". Richard Osterlind has a variation with lots of handling tips on his Easy to master mental miracles DVD set. Great thinking though. I like the first effect a lot. Thank you for being so generous, James Linn

That was very kind of you to extend that offer to the rest of us, as a purchaser of your previous material I was very interested in this and now I will have a chance to provide feedback

Oddly enough, I’ve never actually performed Tervil. Recently, I did, however, try a similar effect; Al Baker’s “Co-Incidentally”. IMO, it’s not as strong as Tervil, but it’s much simpler (especially after I replaced Al Baker’s Tear with a move of my own and his Switch for another custom built move). It’s still a pretty inefficient use of billet moves, but it was kind of fun to try it. OK, enough rambling for now.
Posted: Jul 18, 2006 8:41pm ---------------------------------------------- Look at it this way. Tervil is considered to be one of the most diabolical billet routines around. It is a testament to Mr. Meyer’s genius. Meanwhile, you independently created it. I think that says something very complimentary about your obviously sharp mind. I know I couldn’t have come up with something like that. |

So where is this Coin in Bottle trick that was spoken about and yet to come to life.

I believe Zach Allen is a fairly young guy and, even if an effect he created bears some resemblance to one (by Meyer as published in Annemann, in this instance) that debuted many years ago it's nonetheless a tribute to his talent that he independently came up with it himself. In light of how easy it is for magic creators to entirely innocently and inadvertently "re-invent the wheel" wouldn't it be great of there was a sort of "central registry" of magic principles and already-existing effects which would facilitate creators' pre-release research?

Somehow I missed the last few posts of this thread.
Yes, it has come to my attention through several of you that I did independantly come up with a billet routine that has been done by several others before. Everyone was very nice and polite in bringing this to my attention, and I wanted to thank everyone for that as well. This has happened to me several times before, as anyone who creates magic has had it happen. Of course, that was part of my reasoning for sending this out to people before, both for feedback and crediting purposes. Lastly, a heads up for everyone - my new website will be going up within the next few days, which will have all of my previous e-books for sale - many at reduced prices - along with a new mentalism e-book and the long awaited Rivers of Babylon Coin through bottle DVD, along with several routines that use the ROB core method for mentalism routines. More details will be available within the next few days. Thanks to everyone for all of their support! Zach Allen |
