Martinka - great for sellers...expensive for buyers
Ron Allesi - new and promising, but had one unhappy experience Magic Auction - quality not as high as others KT Magic - a favorite and some nice stuff, though never bought anything, yet eBay - still the standard, but need to tease out the real nice stuff...bookmark! Andy Martin's Qualitymagic.com - not an auction, but great discounts! |

I have been to most of these sites, and finally ended up using eBay

Ebay is by-far my favorite. Most of things on Ron Allesi's site have high reserves, and are sold by him, so it's hard to get a bargain. KT Magic also seems very high. I've found a couple things on Magic Auction, but the email system of bidding is cumbersome.

Yes, I agree.
The other magic auction sites are not as userfriendly and well developed as eBay. |

Quote: I recently ordered a VHS tape from Ron Allesi. On his site it states that if you pay via check or money order that shipping is free, yet he charged me $3. When I questioned him about it he said that it was not on his site, and it must have been cached in an old browser of mine, when in reality it is still listed as a policy on his site, and was not cached in my browser. Also- when I got the package it was a priority mail box that had been turned inside out, and shipped via media mail, so my local post office charged me $2.46 postage due. Not very impressive if you ask me. I don't ever plan on ordering anything from that site again. On 2006-08-13 17:06, GeorgeG wrote:

Magic auction likes to increase the price sometime as much as $1000 to some illusions! I rather go to e-bay

I totally agree, ebay is safer and way way easier to deal with.

Just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with Ron Allesi recently. I recvently purchased an expensive piece from him and never got it. He told me that it was being returned to him after one attempt by the post office to deliver it to me. After 3+ weeks nothing has arrived to me and according to Ron he has not gotten the box back. I have emailed and called several times and not a single response from him. After contacting Amex to stop my charge I got a nasty email claiming that he is not responsible for the boz after it is shipped. No tracking # or proof of insurance was ever provided to me. Please be very careful when doing business with Ron at this point. I would only use a CC so you are protected. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has had a similar situation.
Ebay seems to be the only safe auction at this point. |

I've purchased items from KT Auctions and found the site to be very user friendly. His site does make bidding easy and you can see the results in real-time, just like Ebay.
Are his prices high? Perhaps. But one must remember that, unlike Ebay, Mr. Thompson's site is geared to a very specific corner of the collecting market. Most of the items I have seen on his site start with fairly low bids, but can go up quickly as bidders on a particular piece of paraphenalia get caught up in the excitement of the bidding process. That's the whole point of auctions. You want a bargain, they want to sell it for as much as they can get the bids to go up to. I have seen this happen in real life at auction houses.

I built http://www.buymagicnow.com earlier this year and it's totally free. It works just like eBay and I think it's really good. There are certainly going to be some kinks to work out as more people visit but it's easy to use.
http://www.BuyMagicNow.com Give it a shot, let me know what you think. Don't expect miracles in sales until traffic increases. BTW, the only thing that does cost is the bold and top of page listings. If I didn't charge for them, everyone would do it and the site would look horrible - That's why they are expensive! Plus, any money from those listing goes to maintain the site and the leftover goes to the JDRF (my oldest son has type 1 diabetes)

I read a consistent pattern of problems by mail in the above posts. The United States Postal Inspection Service site states, "Fraud. You may be a target. You don't have to be a victim". Consider checking with the USPIS regarding a Mail Fraud investigation: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/inves......aud.aspx .
Pleased to continue finding that all the world's a stage.
