Hi All, First time post, so I hope it is in the right place. I am looking to include an effect in my repetoir that I think is called "too hot to handle". (this is more than likely wrong but it fits the effect...)
It is with a peice of tin foil that is placed into a spectators hand and then begins to heat and eventually gets so hot has to be dropped. (Therefore making it too hot to handle...) I know that it is the reaction between the foil and a chemical that is aplied just before the foils is passed.... but what is this mystery chemical. I used to have it written down somewhere, but I can't find it! Help.

It is found in Harry Lorynes Apocolypse (sp?). Not sure which issue, I think around 1988.

Hi WKM,
Welcome to the café. You'll find lot's of help here from some great people. I might be missing something, but I can't find the effect you're looking for. I looked through the "The Effects" indexes for all 20 years and paged through the years 1987 - 1989 of Harry Lorayne's "Apocalypse" books with no luck. As mentioned, maybe I overlooked it or something. If I come across it, I'll post it here. In the meantime... Good luck. Mark. |

Wow..thanks Larry. I'll definitely be passing this effect for others that are much more safer. I appreciate the warning.

I don't know anything about it but you might want to check out HOT BALL by Viking.

There have been serious injury and lawsuits involved with the foil effect. The hot ball is safer.

Hot ball. Sounds great, I may lok that up.. Thanks for the advice Larry, I was not aware of this but obviously if there are safty implications then it is a No No. I know also that this is used by some distant magician friends of mine, so I will pass all the info on to them too, and a good point about the law suits too Pete. Thanks again folks.

Hey WKM,
The effect ur refering to used to be called "Hot and Cold" I forget the more resent name of the effect how ever it is discontinued since the chemical used in it is a by product of mercury. The last shop that carried it was Viking that I am aware of. You can try and call George at Viking and see if he has more, but I doubt it. |
