I’m a complete novice to card magic and have just realized something very profound but probably very obvious to everyone else. Card magic can be divided into categories, for example:
location - any method of revealing a spectators selected card transposition - cards visibly changing such as, “Last trick of Dr. Daley”. Physical alteration- “Torn and Restored” and “card Warp” etc... Gambling demonstrations - “Three card monte” etc... I’m sure that this subject has been examined in exhaustive detail with better examples and clearer definitions but it seems to me that you should only perform one example of a specific category during a routine instead of multiple variations of the same category. It would seem to make a stronger impact and retain an audiences attention better. Agree or disagree? |

TAJ,
This generalises to all magic as discussed in several threads. This one links to others: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=106 IMHO there is nothing wrong in using the same basic effect several times if it is presented in different ways. In fact it can build a stronger effect with the routine progressing towards "the same but more impossible", as done in e.g. an Ambitious Card Routine. That said it, the theory is an interesting tool for people that feel their routines have too much of the same effect in them. Good point' Michael |

Thanks for the links molsen, I'll have to read that book "Trick Brain". Couldn't ACR be classified as one example of a category? - Taj
