Rick Merrill won close-up at FISM 2006. On his website,'Antimony' is a coin effect product, with video trailer. Anyone know of this effect? Provide a review? Thanks.

Zauber,
I have been playing with the routine since it first appeared in Antinomy Issue #1. I didn't think I was going to like the effect at first because there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary back and forth handlings and changes of the positions of the coins, but I performed this once for a lay audience, and it changed my opinion of the routine completely. The basic premise is simple. The half dollars are produced. Then one at a time at the fingertips they change to three different coins. Then one at a time they all change back. The routine's benefits far out weigh the drawbacks. Pros: *astoundly visual coin magic *done at chest level *perfect for restuarant work *each change looks impossible *within the range of the average coin worker Cons: *coins can't be handed out for examination *some of the handling required to perform some of the magic maybe frustrating to some magicians All and all, I think you should try it out. If you don't already have the coins needed to perform the routine, looks like you can buy them with the routine on Antinomymagic.com for like $65. I'd give it a thumbs up....

E, I also like his handling of that Double Deception Card... Hey, E how might that thing be used in conjunction with a coin???? Where after a coin change, so does the card.... Hmmmmmmm. Good stuff, "Antinomy"....You too, dog. -MB

First, this item belongs in "trick coin" land. As does the Liwag item.
The clip looks good. From audience perspective, the routine does kind of invite the "let me see those coins" feeling so perhaps C/S/B or similar would not really go well here... probably better to vanish them.

Rick Merrill's three change is very good. The routine is great, and he does it REALLY well. Its a well put together routine, that does not rely to heavily on sleight of hand. His intention when putting it together was to create a peace of real magic, and in his hands it look amazing.
There are ways to add more sleight of hand to accomplish a similar sleight, and it sounds like Mano has done that. The first version of three change is the one that he does in his act. Rick does both effects so well that although I know the method of three change, and I still amazed by most of his other routine. I should mention in three change they change to a centavo, english penny, and chinese coin. In his competition act they all change to Chinese. As mentioned in previos post, the routine is very gimmicked, and is not examinable. I do think however, that in Godhandz list of pros and cons, the pros defintely out way the cons. I don't think that not being examinable takes much away from the effect. Being that you show your hands empty through the whole routine, and the changes are very visual, its an amazing piece of magic. just my two centavos |

Thanks to all who responded... even J. Townsend, despite his usual negative sentiments. No offense J. Townsend, it is just your way I guess.
Godhandz -- I thank you for a review that really makes me think about this effect after viewing a video clip that would have resulted in my immediate order for the effect without some proper insight. Zauber

I'll leave the search for motivation and segue into other routines as a question for others. I suggest vanishing the coins to complete the "appear, change, change back, vanish" cycle. Also to avoid requests to examine the coins or routining problems after the fact.
Yes, my way is to consider the audience. No offense taken.
