Hello,
I'm a close up worker and just started experimenting with the Fantasio Vanishing Candle. When I just started out in magic, I saw Lance Burton perform his amazing routine and promised myself to look into that one day, because that is what magic should look like. Yesterday, my Vanishing Candle and Micheal Lair's DVD 'Candles' arrived. Although I think Lair's DVD is excellent, it doesn't cover the Vanishing Candle in great detail, just the basics. For now, I'm trying to build a routine where I come up with empty hands, produce or just take out a silk, produce the candle under cover of the silk, light it, blow it out and vanish it. I have some ideas that seem to work, but I like to experiment a bit more. That's why I'm interested in material that covers the vanishing candle in detail. I'm particulary interested in stealing the candle and routining, bringing the hand with the candle to the silk without it being obvious, and that kinda things. Any help is very welcome! Regards, Simon |

Great question. Although I myself can't help you much, I hope other people here can shed some more light on this as I am interested in this, too.
Since you want to produce candle from silk, wherever you keep your silk, I guess you should keep your candle there as well. So when you bring out the silk, you have secretly palmed in your candle as well. Durgy |

Hi Durgy,
I came up with the idea to keep the candle in the sleep and let it fall into the hand as take out a silk from my breastpocket. Maybe someone has other ideas? Simon |

Well, you could start with the candle palmed in its coiled position.
Take out the silk and run it through your hand. Then run it upwards a time or two. After this, run it up once more and take the tip of the candle behind it, extending it out. Gip the bottom, keeping it extended and light it after the reveal letting the silk fall and hang from the hand. Then simply replace the silk, release the candle, the speed of its retraction should put it out. Flourish the silk and ditch it along with the candle. I hope that this helps.

Great that you are investing your time into learning candle magic. I would highly reccomend you obtaining the Fantasio book and /or the Fantasio 2 lecture series that he did at the Magic Castle. These resources would help you so much with what you are trying to do and I constantly refer back to these resources for ideas and inspiration. I hope this helps.
Kyle PS: Be careful guys not to be explaining secrets here in an open forum like this. If you want to discuss techniques or secrets you will be better off PMing the person on the details. Thanks.

I agree with Kyle the Fantasio book and lecture series are the best info there is on candles, after all he did invent them. If you need to contact Fantasio for anything he would write you back, you could even order replacement parts through him. I would recomend that and he migt even give you some tips and ideas.
Best, Jeff Here is the web site: http://www.fantasio.com

F.Y.I. You may find that Fantasio didn't "invent" the candles. His contribution was the space age plastic... (and some great handling!) Julie |
