The Illusionist is a newer movie out in theaters right now (highly reccomended). In the film, the main character, Eisanheim, gives his love a puzzle locket. It resembles a large pill with a diagonal cut in it. It twists along that cut, so that, when one section is flipped 180 degrees, it forms a heart. However, when it is in the heart shape, the locket can be opened - the top half pivots out, using the bottom point of the heart as the pivot.

I want to know if this is possible. My logic says it is, just that it can't hold anything inside. If not, then does anyone have any ideas on how to make it semi-possible? Perhaps, to make it twist, and then open a different way?

I have been looking for this for awhile for non-magical reasons! Let start with some basic information

Here is a link to how it might work:

I have looked for something that was as close to the real thing as I could get and I think I have found it;

It is not cheap, but if you need one, this is by far the best I have found!!

This is the most workable version I've seen yet. No microscopes and microlathes required.

That is just beautiful. It opens in both constellations, the object inside shows two different images, plus it's in the middle of the locket so it should be cut in half when the locket is twisted.

Then again, this design is much thicker than the one in the movie, which might make it less deceptive.
