There havn't been to many reviews of this dvd so I thought I would put one up.
Review of mind mysteries vol. 7 My experience in mentalism is farley new. I got this and some of the other mind mysteries DVD’s. I have used some of the routines in this and some I have not I will mention that in my review. Final Answer – I love this routine. I have performed this only once but the time I did it went fantastic. This routine is technically easy to do but takes a lot of stage presence to pull off. The basic effect is that you have a piece of paper with two sides. One has a number on it and the other has a place to write a question. You have them write a question and tear the paper and two. You collect the questions and dump them out so that you can’t see them. You then collect the numbers and start pulling them out of the bag. You then proceed to read the mind of the person you called out Richard Osterlind also goes over what happens if you get a bad question and how to get out of it. 9/10 Test conditions 2 – I don’t have the second mind mysteries dvd that explains the bcs. So I don’t think I can review this properly. Tribute to Tarbell- This is a cool effect. You basically have a card selected and have other person put there hand down on it. Easy to do not an effect I have used a lot but a nice impromptu effect 7.5/10 Psychological Impossibility- This I like the deck is cut in half and one card put into your pocket. Then a number is picked and you find the card that matches that number in the deck. You then count down to it and it is not there it is now in your poket. I have tried this a few times and it’s really easy to do and plays pretty strong. 8/10 Matchbook Prediction- a prediction effect were you predict the card in a match book that looks like a playing card. You do it again and the match book magically changes into the second selection. I haven’t performed this yet but I did like it. It’s easy to do and it briges magic with mentalism. 8.5/10 ESP Stack- Now we get to some of the best stuff on this DVD. The ESP stack is some thing I haven’t used yet since I still need to buy some esp. cards but this is fantastic. Basically the effect is what the directions tell you to do. You have some one cut the esp cards and then look at them while your back is turned and you write the impressions you get from the spectator. Your impressions turn out to be correct. This is a little bit of work since you need to learn the stack but other than that it’s all in the presentation like all good mentalism should be. 9.5/10 Osterlind Design Duplication System- This have used and a lot. It’s very versatile. I have used it in restaurant work and in shows. The effect is you have a bunch of cards with words on them. You have some one pick it and draw it wile you draw a picture. After you both are done you share your pictures and they are the same. The nice thing about this is all you need are the cards and paper and you can do the effect. Highly recommended. 9.5/10 Ashes on the Arm- This is the classic effect with nice subtleties and a nice way to get setup. The basic effect is that some writes down a person inicals on a piece of paper the paper is torn and burned. The ashes are then rubbed on your hand and spell out the inicals. 8.5/10 Pen Paddle Move- This not an effect but more Richard Osterlinds take on the paddle move. He gives some very good advice on how to properly do this move. The routine he dose is also very entertaining. 8.5/10 Dad's Favorite - A very nice four ace effect. The deck is cut into multiple piles ultimately ending with four when the top cards are turned over they are found to be the four aces. Not an effect you will use every wear but a nice “show me a trick effect” 8.5/10 Haunted Key- This is the effect where the key moves over on your hand. This is more of Richard Osterlinds touches on how to present magic and really believing you are doing what you say you are doing. 9.5/10 Solid Ghost- This is a little more of a magic effect than mentalist. The basic effect is a ghost appears under a silk. This has many advantages over the old glorpy silk. One is that you don’t have to keep your hand on the cloth to make it rise. Two you can have some one tap it with a spoon. It’s a very creepy effect. You can buy this separately from Richards web site but it’s pretty easy to make also. 9.5/10 Over all this entire DVD is very good. I really enjoyed the stuff that wasn’t cards but they may be because I am not looking to add any more card tricks to my show. Over all the effects are pretty strong. I also liked that Jim Sisti was in all of the explanation which was useful in having some one else ask questions that come up a lot when learning a new effect. I highly recommend getting this you will not regret it.
