You can walk...actually...after they bust you because of how bad the illusion looks up close, you'll probably want to run!

I did STS for the first time last night at a resturant.
For me personally, I was shocked at the crowd reaction. Their jaws literally dropped, and they began shouting and screaming. I wound up doing it an additional 4 times in a walk around setting, and each time I began to do it again, almost the entire crowd of resturant patrons ran from their tables to see it again. I was concerned to do it more than once, but found that regardless of the fact that I kept coming out with the shoelaces untied, no one even mentioned that. It was crazy. I know that it is a very visual effect, but I was really surprised that it got such a huge reaction. I was initially luckey to get a woman to say my laces were untied and actually offered to tie them for me. I said ok, and as she bent down, I asked her "you actually bend down to tie your shoelaces, I haven't done that since I was a kid". I asked her to stand up, which she did with a blank expression on her face. I polled the resturant as to how many people still bend down to tie their shoelaces. Of course, they all raised their hands. I said "let me show you how to do it more easily while standing", and performed the effect. I don't own ASL, but I can attest that STS is awesome! I know you all have great routines, but I am still so shocked about the reaction, that I figured that I would post this. Bob |

Dodgechargerrt30,
Please let us know your results. I have n=been on the verge of buying the self tying Shoelaces. I was hoping to hear your first hand recommendation. It seems like it has more benifits then the ATS gimick. Please let us know. Charlie

I am considering buying this, as it looks awesome. However, the videos all show the shoelaces as white sneakers. I almost never wear sneakers, I always wear a more formal black shoe with black laces. Is this gimmick built into the laces, or is it something I can use on whatever laces I have? I will look like a fool going around in a tie, black business shoes and white laces!
My other question, is whether this can be performed with the key to shoelace trick. When you bend down to take their house key off your shoelace, can you untie your shoe at that point, give them back their house key and then proceed to segue into the fact that your shoe is untied? I think that would be a really amazing combination. |

Does anyone know of a source for houndstooth / checkered dress shoelaces?
As mentioned in the STS dvd, black dress shoelaces are more difficult to see... |

I like STS personally. I haven't seen Animated in person though.

I am using self binding laces for a while - well, just a few times at least. I saw Dynamo performing it, and made some.
Some comments in this thread sound strange - did anyone really BUY this effect? Well, I am good at performing this trick, but have rarely met any adult that had think more than two minutes to figure out how it works. That´s okay, til then everyone has had a stunned moment or a laugh. But it´s not very mystical, is it? Animated laces can not be explained that quickly. One will have to think a lot harder. (By the way - a guy told me that he knew the self-binding laces from an issue of Mickey-Mouse-with-Gimmick ;D) |

STS is the winner imo. The reactions are huge as Bob stated above. Zero problems even when performed close-up & fully examinable at completion. What more do you need?
